EUV Upgrades Scanner Engineer

Job Description

Introduction to the job

Do you want to work on hands‑on engineering challenges in an international environment? Join ASML and become part of a growing team of Upgrade, Install and Relocation (UIR) engineers working on the newest EUV machines across Europe. In this role, you build and integrate our systems at multiple customer sites, within specifications, on time, and with quality exceeding customer expectations.

ASML develops, produces and sells high‑end lithography systems for the semiconductor industry. Our machines enable the creation of ever‑smaller, faster and more affordable chips. As a UIR Engineer, you work on the most advanced lithographic systems—machines that operate with accelerations greater than fighter jets and image billions of nanostructures per second.

Role and responsibilities

Training program (Year 1 – International)

Due to the complexity of EUV machines, you begin with a one‑year international training program in Europe, the USA and/or Asia. This includes:

  • Hands‑on technical training on EUV systems.
  • Several multi‑week training blocks abroad.
  • On‑the‑job training at customer sites in Europe or worldwide.

UIR Engineer responsibilities (Year 2 onward)

You will execute installation, upgrade, and relocation projects for EUV systems at customer locations in Europe. Customer fabs are currently located in Ireland and Belgium, with potential sites in Israel, Germany and more.

You will participate in the full UIR end‑to‑end process:

1. Project preparation

  • Implement lessons learned, prepare customer fabs, pre‑check materials.
  • Review execution documentation and support continuous improvement projects.
  • Perform pre‑install actions to ensure all factory conditions are met before machine arrival.

2. Hardware phase

  • Disassemble systems and execute upgrades.
  • Work with cabling, water, gas and vacuum components.
  • Power on systems and perform commissioning checks.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, electrical, gas and water‑related issues.

3. Recovery phase

  • Integrate and qualify the system.
  • Calibrate and test system performance, including system acceptance tests.
  • Diagnose and resolve system failures before handover to the customer support team.

4. Wrap‑up

  • Finalize documentation and administrative closure of the project.

Operational responsibilities

  • Perform structured problem analysis, gather diagnostics, and determine solution paths.

  • Hand over advanced issues to 2nd line support with proper documentation (work orders, field service reports, SPRs, technical reports).
  • Execute reinstallations, upgrades, hardware installation and system setup/recovery for upgrade packages.
  • Train customers in routine use and maintenance of equipment.

Education and experience

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in a technical discipline, preferably Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or Mechatronics.
  • Strong affinity for hands‑on engineering and complex technical systems.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively, especially during training.
  • Legally authorized to access controlled technology as defined in Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730 et seq.).

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to understand, support and influence others.
  • Safety‑first mindset.
  • Quality‑driven (“first time right”).
  • Passion for hands‑on engineering challenges.
  • Attention to detail while maintaining an overview.
  • Flexibility and self‑steering ability.

Other information

Shift schedule

  • 12‑hour shift schedule (24/7) with shift allowances and overtime compensation.

Travel

  • During training: >80% international travel.
  • Post‑training: travel depends on customer needs, mainly within Europe (Ireland, Israel, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium), with possible worldwide assignments (Taiwan, Korea, USA).

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
