Mission Manager – International Government (South America)
Job Description
About xAI
xAI’s mission is to create AI systems that can accurately understand the universe and aid humanity in its pursuit of knowledge. Our team is small, highly motivated, and focused on engineering excellence. This organization is for individuals who appreciate challenging themselves and thrive on curiosity. We operate with a flat organizational structure. All employees are expected to be hands-on and to contribute directly to the company’s mission. Leadership is given to those who show initiative and consistently deliver excellence. Work ethic and strong prioritization skills are important. All employees are expected to have strong communication skills. They should be able to concisely and accurately share knowledge with their teammates.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
As a Mission Manager focused on International Government, you will collaborate directly with government agencies, public sector organizations, and partners in South America (and broader international markets as needed) to strategize, scope, and execute mission-critical AI solutions using xAI's frontier models, APIs, tools, and integrations.
You will serve as the primary bridge between international government stakeholders and xAI's engineering, research, and product teams—driving adoption of AI for civilian and public-sector use cases such as policy analysis, public health modeling, education, scientific research support, regulatory workflows, disaster response, and citizen services. This role emphasizes hands-on problem-solving, international travel (primarily to South America), and a deep understanding of regional needs, data sovereignty, and compliance with local/international standards.
No national security clearance is required for this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead problem discovery, requirements gathering, and product scoping with key South American government customers and organizations, often on-site during international assignments and travel.
- Support the full lifecycle of engagements: from initial outreach and proposal development through solution design, prototyping, deployment, integration, and ongoing optimization.
- Meet customers on-site to deploy xAI models/products in their environments, integrate with existing systems, or enable cloud-based access—working closely alongside applied engineers and technical teams.
- Identify customer pain points, translate mission needs into technical specifications, and collaborate with xAI teams to customize or build LLM-powered solutions tailored to regional priorities.
- Ensure solutions comply with relevant international and regional regulations (e.g., data protection, sovereignty, and ethical AI guidelines).
- Analyze system performance (logs, prompts, outputs) to drive reliability, effectiveness, and continuous improvement.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government stakeholders, multilateral organizations, and partners across South America.
- Contribute to new business development, including preparing proposals, demos, and strategic roadmaps aligned with xAI's capabilities
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proven experience partnering with international government agencies, regional/local administrations, multilateral organizations, or public-sector entities on AI, software, data, or technology initiatives (experience in South America or Latin American markets strongly preferred).
- 5+ years in government relations, public sector consulting, solution engineering, product management, or customer-facing technical roles—ideally involving complex deployments or enterprise-scale AI/software projects.
- Strong understanding of AI applications in public sector contexts (e.g., policy, healthcare, education, environment, or emergency management).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical government audiences and vice versa.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally (primarily South America, up to 30-50% as needed).
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g., international relations, computer science, public policy, engineering)
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Direct experience working with South American governments or organizations (e.g., Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Honduras or multilateral bodies like OAS/IDB).
- Familiarity with regional data protection regulations, sovereignty requirements, or ethical AI frameworks in Latin America.
- Technical background (e.g., experience with LLMs, APIs, cloud deployments, or data analysis) or proven ability to work closely with engineering teams.
- Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese (in addition to English) is highly desirable.
- Track record of delivering high-impact projects under tight timelines in dynamic or resource-constrained environments.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
$180,000 - $440,000 USD
Base salary is just one part of our total rewards package at xAI, which also includes equity, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, access to a 401(k) retirement plan, short & long-term disability insurance, life insurance, and various other discounts and perks.
