Job Description

Virgin Galactic is seeking a highly motivated Receiving Inspector to support our Quality team. Guided by our values, “Safety above All”, we proactively manage the risks inherent in human spaceflight through our daily actions in the design and assembly efforts. 

This will be a dual role with duties in both Receiving and Vehicle Inspection, requiring an A&P license. Primary tasks will be associated with inspection standards, principles, techniques to examine, question, evaluate and report objective evidence of results in accordance with Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements.  Maintain focus on timeliness and execution of tasks and deliverables every day. Support the company strategy by holding ourselves and one another accountable for getting the work done. 

Responsibilities

  • Process product inspections upon receipt from materials. 
  • Verify all materials have proper traceability and is obtained from vendors on the ASL (Approved Suppliers List) as well as that all material conforms to the engineering definition as requested by the inspection plan 
  • Perform re-inspections on product returns from Manufacturing (MFG) 
  • Perform historical research on inspections for other groups as needed 
  • Process monitor and move Non-Conformance Reports (NCR's) maintain custody/control of Material Review Board (MRB) 
  • Generate Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as required within TipQA and / or Apriso during receiving inspections for erroneous entries    
  • Inspect purchased electrical and mechanical parts, and raw materials for conformity to standards, specifications, and processing requirements
  • Inspect for defects and damage, proper identification, and dimensions using measuring devices
  • Input data and inspection results
  • Follow and document complex processes, input data and inspection results
  • Communicate effectively, in both written and verbal formats, with engineering, management and production personnel to convey product acceptance criteria and inspection results
  • Comply with safety regulations and promote a safe working environment
  • Proper and timely completion of assigned tasks in accordance with the policies and procedures set forth by the company
  • Conduct work in a manner that enhances own/other employees’ health and safety, product safety and promotes risk reduction
  • Participate openly in safety-related event investigations, and immediately report workplace hazards and make suggestions for control
  • Cooperate and contribute toward the overall success of the Safety program at the local level
  • Adhere to set directions and guidelines from team leader to support collaboration across teams to complete project
  • Work on quality control assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations
  • Ensure quality and efficiency of installations, including troubleshooting and may provide guidance in troubleshooting processes and concepts

  Required Skills and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a related field, may include, but not limited to; aerospace parts and components and hands‐on experience in a manufacturing, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), or airline environment with a special emphasis in prototype aircraft; to include material and logistics operations
  • Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License
  • Knowledge of AS9100 and other relevant aerospace industry standards and regulations
  • In depth understanding of the inspection techniques and quality issues associated with logistics and warehouse operations 
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and/or models on paper or digital
  • Experience with nonconforming material control processes
  • Specific vision abilities (corrected or uncorrected) to include color perception, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus to be able to detect even the smallest of flaws or defects in the materials used
  • Comply with safety regulations and promote a safe working environment
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer applications to follow manufacturing work instructions  
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and/or models on paper or digital

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Proven hands-on inspection experience in the aerospace industry using a variety of precision measurement tools
  • Knowledge of applying current quality control practices and willingness to learn cutting edge spacecraft quality techniques
