Modeling & Simulation Engineer (Senior) – Synthetic Environments

We are seeking an experienced Modeling & Simulation Engineer to support the development of high-fidelity synthetic environments and immersive training systems used by defense and government customers. This role focuses on building and integrating realistic terrain, environments, and interactive simulation content across multiple simulation and game-engine platforms.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience working with 3D simulation environments such as Unreal Engine, Unity, and VBS, along with expertise in generating geospatially accurate terrain and environments using photogrammetry, LIDAR, and drone-based data collection. The engineer will support the creation, processing, and deployment of terrain datasets and environment assets used in military modeling, simulation, and training systems.

Key responsibilities include processing and converting geospatial source data into runtime-ready terrain databases, integrating environments into simulation engines, and supporting technology demonstrations for government stakeholders. The role also involves working with drone-based photogrammetry, terrestrial LIDAR scanning, and digital twin generation tools such as Matterport to create realistic operational environments.

Candidates should have experience building or supporting virtual, augmented, or mixed reality training systems, scripting behaviors in simulation environments, and developing interactive training applications. Familiarity with synthetic environment pipelines, geospatial tools, and real-time visualization systems is highly desirable.

The ideal candidate is technically versatile, collaborative, and comfortable working in research, prototyping, and operational environments supporting defense training and simulation programs. A Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one is preferred

Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.

The base pay for this position ranges from our lowest geographic market up to our highest geographic market within California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, and Washington:$112,000.00 - $238,000.00 annually.
