Summary


About the position: This is a NAF position with the 61st Force Support Squadron, located at the South Bay Café on Los Angeles Air Force Base, El Segundo, California. This position is considered Flexible. The position is 0 hours, but has the potential to work up to 40 hours per week. As a flexible employee, you are not eligible for leave or benefits.

Duties

The purpose of this position is to mix and serve pre-mixed alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages from a limited service bar. Operates limited service bars. Prepares a limited variety of alcoholic drinks by selecting proper premix and garnish. Serves beer, soda and wine. Serves patrons directly or delivers to waiter. Receives payment, operates cash register, and makes and returns change to patrons or waiter. Sets up bar for operation and obtains cash bank. Maintains work area neat and clean. Washes bar equipment, glassware, and utensils. Stocks service bars and assists higher-level bartender as required. May be required to prepare documentation for cash funds accountability. Works uncommon tour of duty which includes nights, weekends, and Holidays. Performs other related duties as assigned. Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of correct proportions and mixtures to use in preparing beverages. Ability to recognize intoxicated or unruly patrons and to resolve the problem or seek assistance if needed. Ability to follow cash handling procedures. Responsibility: Supervisor provides guidance and evaluates work performance and is available to answer questions and resolve customer dissatisfactions. Work is evaluated on ability to carry out supervisors' instructions concerning work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Physical Effort: Requires frequent light to moderate lifting and carrying of objects weighing 5 to 15 pounds, pushing and pulling objects weighing 10 to 20 pounds and occasionally lifting up to and over 40 pounds. Heavier objects such as beer kegs are usually transported with the aid of a dolly. Working Conditions: Works inside with adequate lighting, heat, and ventilation. Subject to cuts, bruises, and chapped hands.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Must have experience mixing alcoholic beverages for retail sale, which includes knowledge of correct proportions and mixtures to use in preparing beverages. Must be able to recognize intoxicated or unruly patrons and to resolve the problem or seek assistance if needed. Must be able to follow cash handling procedures. Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing 5 to 15 pounds, pull and push objects weighing 10 to 20 pounds, and occasionally lift up to and over 40 pounds. Condition(s) of Employment: Satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Must meet the appropriate minimum age requirement for working with and/or serving alcoholic beverages. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training. Must be able to communicate clearly with customers, and possess skill in dealing with the public. Successful completion and favorable adjudication of applicable background investigation (Tier 1 Level) is required. Works uncommon tour of duty which includes nights, weekends, and Holidays.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
