Facilities Manager
Job Description
Turion Space is building the autonomous infrastructure required to operate, protect, and sustain the in-space economy. From on-orbit inspection and debris removal to autonomous spacecraft operations powered by Starfire OS, our programs depend on disciplined financial execution and cost transparency across complex hardware, software, and mission systems.
As Facilities Manager you are the operational backbone of our physical environment and the person who ensures our office, lab, and technical spaces run without friction so engineers can focus on the mission. You will own everything from vendor contracts and preventive maintenance to CapEx projects and space planning, and you will build the systems that let Turion scale its footprint as headcount grows. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role that will build a strong team empowering Turion Space to continue to be successful.
Responsibilities
Day-to-day operations across all Turion spaces: i.e., offices, labs, clean rooms, machine shop, and technical bays, ensuring every environment is safe, compliant, and ready to support the work.
Hands-on with maintenance tasks such as replacing HVAC filters, addressing minor plumbing issues and lighting issues, and other routine facility upkeep — no task is too small if it keeps the environment running.
Provide multi-site oversight across all Turion locations in Washington D.C., both Irvine facilities, and more as we continue to grow ensuring consistent operational standards, maintenance programs, and facility experiences across every site.
Participate in facility selection and planning efforts as the company expands into new spaces.
Lead vendor sourcing, contract negotiation, and performance management for janitorial, landscaping, security, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and other third-party service providers.
Own preventive and corrective maintenance programs: including scheduling, coordinating internal technicians and outside contractors, and tracking completion to close-out.
CapEx project management from pre-construction through customer handover including budgeting, scope definition, contractor coordination, permitting support, and punch-list resolution.
Space planning and utilization: own the floor plan, manage headcount growth projections with HR and Operations, and execute moves, additions, and changes with minimal disruption.
Onboarding logistics for new hires including desk setup, access provisioning coordination with IT and Security, and orientation to the physical workspace.
Facilities budget ownership: build the annual budget, track actuals vs. plan, surface variances early, and identify cost reduction opportunities without compromising operational quality.
Environmental Health and Safety: Collaborate with all departments and the EHS team on OSHA compliance, initiatives, compliance, safety inspections, incident documentation, and corrective action tracking.
Hire the team to make Turion Space a success - Facilities Coordinators, Maintenance Technicians, and Office Coordinators — set direction, removing blockers, and developing each person’s capabilities over time.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of facilities management experience in an aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, or hardware-intensive technology environment.
Demonstrated experience managing industrial and technical spaces and not just corporate offices. You understand the difference between supporting a clean room versus a machine shop.
Hands-on familiarity with MEP systems: HVAC, electrical distribution, plumbing, fire suppression, and building automation. You can read a schematic and hold a contractor accountable.
Proven track record owning CapEx projects end-to-end, including budget development and contractor management.
Strong vendor management skills: i.e., you know how to write an SOW, run a competitive bid, and hold service providers to SLAs.
Experience with space planning tools and data-driven utilization reporting.
Comfortable operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where priorities shift and no task is beneath you.
Strong cross-functional communicator who can translate technical facility needs into clear asks for finance, IT, HR, and engineering leadership.
Working knowledge of OSHA requirements, fire and life safety codes, and applicable state and local building codes
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in satellite manufacturing, launch services, or other space hardware environments.
Familiarity with ITAR-regulated facilities and access control requirements for government contract work.
CFM, FMP, or equivalent facilities management certification.
Experience standing up a new facility from ground-up — not just inheriting one.
Facilities Manager: $130,000 - $180,000 USD
ITAR Requirements:
This position may include access to technology and/or software source code that is subject to U.S. export controls. To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
Benefits:
We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package designed to support the well-being and professional growth of our employees. In addition to a competitive base salary and company stock, determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, and market demand, full-time employees are eligible for:
