Job Summary
The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Facilities Operations Specialist II/III to serve as the primary point of contact for all day-to-day facility needs across the Chantilly, VA campus site. Acting as the “eyes and ears” of the facility, this role ensures that the workspace environment is safe, well-maintained, and operating at the highest standards. Responsibilities include monitoring building conditions, performing minor repairs, coordinating major service needs, overseeing vendors, and supporting workspace readiness. The Facilities Operations Specialist works closely with maintenance teams, contractors, and employees to provide seamless building operations, excellent customer service, and a productive work environment.
The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our campus facility in Chantilly, VA.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Serve as the first point of contact for employees regarding facility needs, service requests, and building-related inquiries.
- Conduct regular walkthroughs and inspections of assigned facilities to identify and resolve maintenance, safety, and cleanliness issues.
- Report minor building electrical, mechanical, plumbing repairs to respective Facilities maintenance departments for resolution (e.g., lightbulb replacement, door repairs, restroom accessories, clogged drains, etc.)
- Perform or assists with light carpentry tasks (e.g., whiteboard, corkboard and picture hanging)
- Monitor janitorial and contracted services to ensure standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and contract compliance are consistently met.
- Support space planning and utilization initiatives, including staff relocations, furniture moves, event setups, and minor renovations.
- Coordinate and escort contractors, inspectors, and service providers during on-site projects or repairs.
- Assist technical trades with preventative maintenance and repairs when needed.
- Collaborate with facilities leadership to align building operations with long-term priorities and campus plans.
- Support Fleet Services (e.g., assist with refueling, scheduled maintenance, inspections, etc.)
- Participate in and complete special projects from inception through completion.
- Promote a strong customer-service mindset, fostering a positive experience for all building occupants.
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements for the Facilities Operations Specialist II:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Three or more years of relevant experience with facilities operations, maintenance trades, practices, and equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to quickly troubleshoot issues.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-service orientation.
- Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize multiple tasks/projects.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with ability to learn new systems (e.g., CMMS).
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, lift and move furniture, and safely use dollies, ladders, and hand tools.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
In addition to the above, the minimum requirements for the Facilities Operations Specialist III include:
- Six or more years of relevant experience with facilities operations, maintenance trades, practices, and equipment.
