
Technical Support Engineer (Radar System)

We are looking for a Technical Support Engineer to provide on-going support to trials and field service support for a Deployable Military Air Traffic Control (ATC) radar and radio systems at various locations.
Integrated Airspace Protection Systems (IAS)
Our main purpose is to protect and defend. We provide rapid integrated solutions for detection, coordination, fire control, engagement and support. We cover three sectors: Surface Attack & Air Defence (UK), Air Defence (International) and Air Operations & Services as well as Space.
Based at RAF Topcliffe, you will be part of a team of support engineers who will be trained and competent in the setting up and take down of the system, plus provision of on-site support as required at the trials location if technical problems occur.
What will you deliver?
- Support the transportation, installation and setting up/take down of the radar system as required
- Undertake scheduled maintenance of equipment, including fault diagnosis & local repair as required
- Undertake inspection and testing under project guidance
- Liaise with management and support engineers to provide user feedback to the business.
- Assist in the delivery of User training.
Who are we looking for?
- Proven experience of supporting ATC solutions from both a hardware and software viewpoint. This could be from either a civil or a military background
- Understanding of customer's ATC operations from a technical support viewpoint
- Experience of customer ATC site operations
- Proven experience in supporting complex Electro / Mechanical Air Traffic Management systems
- Ability to generate and deliver timely and accurate oral and written reports concerning equipment condition and serviceability to varying management levels as required
- Holding current SC clearance or be eligible to gain this as required
Desirable
- Experience in preparation, setup and field support of deployable military C4I capabilities and systems
- Experience in the setting up and maintenance of TACAN systems
- Qualified to IET 17th Regulations, Electrical Installation checks.
- ATSEP Certified.

Security Clearance Requirement:
Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires Security Clearance (SC). It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment.
To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
