
RCS Engineer | Technical Lead – RSM Facility
Job Description
This role lies within part of General Sonar Studies (GSS). The primary responsibilities of members is to work collaboratively to understand, plan, prepare, commission, execute, assure and in some cases analyse safe and efficient RCS measurement activity in support of customer (MOD/industry) needs. Each role within the team contributes specialist skills and experience to the operating model.
Key Responsibilities
Liaising with customers both directly and within meetings, to properly identify target measurement requirements aiding identification of optimal supporting structures and target treatments to meet their requirement.
Producing technical proposals in response to customer requests.
Preparation of the measurement test plan.
Evaluation of measurement targets and their associated measurement requirements.
Evaluation of measurement methodologies and recommendations of solutions.
Processing of measurement data to meet customer designated requirements.
Analysis and interpretation of radar signature data.
Communication/reporting of outputs to customers.
As part of the RSM team investigation\identification of target\range return anomalies.
Measurement data analysis/review
Generic measurement design validation design (DVa )preparation As part of the RSM team investigation\identification of target\range return anomalies
Undertaking theoretical studies as requested by the customer or by internal SFR&D demands.
Supporting Role
Support the Mechanical Engineer in the preparation of the target.
Support the Mechanical Engineer in the design and manufacture of the target support structure.
Support the RCS Trials Team Leader in the preparation of bids.
Support the Radar Engineer in the configuration of the instrumentation radar to meet the task requirements.
Support the Radar Engineer in the operation of the instrumentation radar.
Support the Service Delivery Manager in the safe running of the Underwood Quarry site.
General support activities.
Support the Head of GSS with applications for self-funded research & development (SFR&D), looking to develop new capabilities in the area of RCS measurement and analysis.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
Qualified to degree level (or qualified by experience) in Physics or Electrical\Electronic Engineering with a specialisation in Electromagnetic theory.
Technical competence in the planning and execution of technical measurement trials activity and associated responsibilities.
Competent in Matlab
Competent in Pyphon
Proficient in technical report writing
Effective stakeholder management and communication skills.
Holder or able to achieve security clearance to Developed Vetting (DV) Status.
Holder or able to achieve Working at Height accreditation
Holder or able to achieve IPAF
Hold or be able to achieve Forklift accreditation
Hold or be able to achieve Overhead Crane and Slinging accreditation
Security Clearance Requirement:
Due to the nature of the work that we do at Thales, many of our roles are subject to security restrictions. This role requires you to be a sole British National from birth and achieve Security Clearance (SC) without any caveats . It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance prior to commencing employment. To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks
