Job Description
Primary Purpose and key responsibilities of the Role:
Thales is a leading force both in the UK and globally, operating in several markets - aerospace, transportation, defence, security and space.
Integrated Airspace-protection Systems (IAS) operates primarily within the defence market delivering equipment & services but also has a presence in the space market building satellite propulsion systems. The IAS business is predominantly based in Belfast and Templecombe. With the majority of the finance team at the Belfast site, this role then will initially be Belfast based.
IAS finance is now searching for a talented individual to join the team, and this Accountant will be responsible for supporting operational financial activities. The role is broad and will be a challenging & rewarding opportunity where your contribution to the team will have a real impact on the success of the business as a whole.
Main responsibilities:
- Prepare and circulate month end overhead reporting packs to budget holders
- Prepare Tax Transfer Pricing Documents
- Internal Control Questionnaires
- Partner with Operations to provide accurate & timely information
- Pro-actively supporting the business teams in their preparation of the annual budget (MYB) for overheads and rates
- Shadow Overhead Accountant to support reforecasts and the annual budget process MYB
- Provide key inputs for the production of internal and external rates submissions
- Providing timely and accurate financial data to support successful management of the business, including production of monthly and ad-hoc financial reports.
- Update MYB inputs TM1 and reconcile inputs.
- Work closely with the wider IAS finance team providing expert advice and support
- Identification of financial risks and opportunities within the business
- Carrying out month end processing activities, supporting and maintaining internal controls to ensure business financial integrity (UK GAAP, Chorus 2.0)
- Month end recurring journals e.g. VCP, Insurance
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations, justifying balances and taking corrective action.
- Provide accurate & timely information to support audits, rates analysis & tax computations.
- Completing Internal control questionnaire for finance function
Skills and Experience
Essential
- You must be highly motivated and passionate about your ability to bring value
- You must have ability to interact & communicate complex issues
- You have track record of being able to quickly assimilate and analyse technical, financial & commercial data/information
- You have clear experience in providing financial analysis in a moving technical environment
- You must be highly proficient in MS Excel or other data management tools
- You are a recognised change agent; able to identify & implement change
Desirable
- You might have good practical/working understanding of ERP systems (ideally Oracle), Magnitude and TM1.
- You might have an understanding and or relevant experience of rates/overhead accounting & reporting
- You might have experience of finance/accounting within a technical engineering environment.
- You should have ability to work autonomously, be a keen team player, energetic self-starter with a pro-active and challenging approach to issues
Qualifications:
- You should be a qualified accountant, ICA, CIMA, ACCA, CIPFA (or equivalent).
- Proven relevant experience in a financial/accounting/labour/budgeting environment.
