Primary Purpose of the Role

Thales is expanding its presence in India through the development of a Group Engineering Competence Centre (ECC), reinforcing its position as a leader in all its markets. Launching in early 2019 in Bengaluru, the ECC will expand Thales’ footprint in its core business areas and cement its long-standing relationship with India.

Thales has an objective to expand industrial process engineering function in India ensuring remote engineering support to Thales Industry and preparing industrial footprint expansion in the region. Achieving a high level of maturity for our products in production is one of the major challenges of Thales industry, both during the industrialization phase and throughout the product's life cycle.


This Job Description is for Industrial Process Engineering & the Role is COMPONENT ENGINEER

The role is based out of Bangalore.


Organization

You will be part of the Industrial Process Engineering – Industrialization team, responsible for defining and managing manufacturing technologies for electronic boards, mechanical components, and related processes. The team supports all product life-cycle phases, bidding, development, and series production.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

We are looking for a Electronics Component Engineer to manage component database quality, lifecycle, with a strong focus on EMS coordination, failure analysis, and component codification. The role involves working closely with Global Teams, local EMS partners, supporting root cause investigations, and ensuring accurate component data management and alternate sourcing for legacy products.

Key Responsibilities

1. Component Quality Database Management

  • Collect and update component removal and purchasing data from EMS partners into internal databases.
  • Maintain accuracy and traceability of component quality records.
  • Collaborate with EMS to gather relevant component information. (Failure/Removal/Purchase information)

2. EMS Relationship & Monitoring

  • Interface with local EMS partners in India to track component removals and issues.
  • Monitor EMS feedback and ensure timely follow-up on reported component failures.
  • Work with EMS to send the Removed components to France for Analysis

3. Failure Analysis & Root Cause Investigation

  • Work with EMS to Perform failure mode analysis (FMA) on removed or defective components.
  • Identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Work with cross-functional teams (quality, design, suppliers) to resolve issues.

4. Component Codification

  • Manage component codification after approval through internal processes (RPS / PDA / APRU / IDC).
  • Ensure proper classification for both electrical and mechanical components.
  • Maintain compliance with internal standards and documentation systems.

5. Alternate Component Analysis

  • Conduct BOM analysis to identify suitable alternate components.
  • Cross-check specifications, form-fit-function compatibility, and supplier references.
  • Support cost optimization and supply chain risk mitigation through alternate sourcing.

Major Challenges

  • Ensure component database quality, codification, and lifecycle activities align with organizational standards and project timelines
  • Collaborate with global teams and EMS partners across different time zones for seamless coordination
  • Manage multiple components, suppliers, and projects simultaneously for analysis and issue resolution

Skills & Knowledge Required

Technology Skills:

  • Experience with component databases and PLM/ERP tools.
  • Knowledge of codification processes (electronic, mechanical parts).
  • Exposure to EMS ecosystems
  • Ability to analyze datasheets and perform cross-referencing of components.
  • Understanding compliance standards (RoHS, REACH, etc.).
  • Data analytics skills (e.g., Excel, Power BI) are an added advantage

Software/Tools:

  • Microsoft Tools (Excel, Power BI, PPT, Outlook, Teams)

Quality Tools:

  • Familiarity with failure analysis techniques (FMEA)
  • Experienced in root cause analysis and problem-solving techniques (PDCA, 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone)

Required Qualification & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering
  • 6–8 years of experience in Electronics (PCB-A) component engineering or quality
  • Strong understanding of electronic components, BOM structures, and EMS operations
  • Experience in failure analysis and component lifecycle management

Language

  • English
  • French basic knowledge is a plus
