Business Controller - Segment Industry Competency Centre

As a Business Controller, you play a pivotal role in steering the financial performance of our Industry Competency Center (ICC). You act as a trusted business partner to operational and commercial stakeholders, providing financial leadership that enables informed decision-making and sustainable growth.


You oversee financial planning and reporting processes, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure accurate financial insights to support one of Europe's leading naval programmes. In this role, you combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution while leading a team of Business Controllers.


Key Responsibilities:

Business Partnering & Financial Leadership

  • Partner with Industry Managers, Program Managers, Procurement and Product Segment Managers to support strategic decision-making.
  • Provide financial guidance and challenge stakeholders to improve business performance.
  • Act as the primary financial contact for external auditors.

Financial Control & Reporting

  • Lead the monthly closing process and ensure accurate reporting within the ERP environment.
  • Validate financial results and safeguard the quality and transparency of financial information.
  • Deliver consolidated financial KPI reporting to senior management.

Performance Management

  • Analyse operational and financial performance and identify trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Prepare and present insights during monthly performance reviews.
  • Translate financial analyses into concrete improvement actions.

Budgeting & Forecasting

  • Coordinate the preparation and validation of budgets and forecasts.
  • Monitor key business indicators, including production output, standard costs, inventory levels and work-in-progress.
  • Ensure alignment between operational plans and financial targets.

Commercial & Operational Support

  • Assess the financial aspects of commercial proposals and ensure compliance with internal governance frameworks.
  • Support operational teams with financial analyses and recommendations.
  • Drive initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and business performance.

Financial Excellence & Transformation

  • Strengthen best practices in areas such as revenue recognition, inventory valuation, estimate-at-completion (EAC) processes and risk management.
  • Contribute to finance transformation initiatives, focusing on process optimisation and enhanced data analytics capabilities.
  • Support the continuous improvement of financial reporting and business control processes.

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop a team of two to three Business Controllers.
  • Foster collaboration, capability development and a high-performance culture.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to both the finance community and the wider business.

Candidate profile:

  • Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in industrial, operational or product controlling.
  • Experience with financial systems and reporting tools such as Oracle, Power BI and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing environments, including cost management and performance indicators.
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets. Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders. A proactive mindset and the confidence to challenge and influence decision-makers. Strong organisational skills and a structured approach to meeting deadlines. Leadership potential with a genuine interest in coaching and developing others.
