Job Description

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

SATELLITE POLICY ANALYST

SpaceX is leveraging its experience building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world’s largest satellite constellation and is providing fast, reliable internet to 10M+ worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system – thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We’ve only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink’s potential global impact. As we continue to upgrade and expand the constellation, we’re looking for best-in-class analysts to join the team.

Telecommunication is a heavily regulated business and this position will advise SpaceX on policy advocacy to ensure these regulations enable and protect the provision of this ground-breaking service. This position will require you to apply expertise and focus to advance Starlink’s licensing and spectrum position in front of U.S. and global regulators and government bodies.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure Starlink has authorizations and spectrum access needed to operate by rapidly procuring licenses and approvals, including by being responsible for the process and outcome from beginning to end
  • Work closely with Starlink engineering teams to understand future needs and position the company accordingly
  • Shape ground infrastructure, broadband and spectrum policies that advance SpaceX’s business objectives and Starlink’s success in the U.S. and global markets
  • Advise the Starlink team on laws, regulations, and policies that impact the business and develop associated plans for achieving business goals
  • Represent and promote the company positions before agencies, regulators, legislatures, and regional organizations
  • Draft pleadings, letters, and other advocacy pieces to promote SpaceX’s policy positions

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1+ years of experience in regulatory policy or business analytics
  • 1+ years of professional experience

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Understanding of satellite and spectrum use policies
  • Knowledge of radio frequency spectrum technology
  • Experience working with the Federal Communications Commission and other federal agencies
  • Demonstrated success delivering results on large, complex, and fast-moving projects

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position is based in Washington D.C. and requires being on-site. Remote work is not considered.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed to meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% of a month.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Satellite Policy Analyst: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00/per year
