MANAGER, ASSET RELIABILITY (STARSHIP)
SpaceX is currently seeking talented and driven individuals with leadership experience in asset and machine reliability for a manager role to own the build-out, direction, and execution of an Asset Reliability team for Starship heat tile manufacturing hardware and production systems at the Cape. This candidate will be operating in a fast-paced and ever-evolving environment as part of the team working to deliver a highly capable and rapidly reusable Starship heat shield. The Asset Reliability Manager will develop and manage a team leading a phenomenal team of engineers and specialists in building and operating a robust asset maintenance system to provide maximum equipment availability and production line overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build the Thermal Hardware Production Asset Reliability team by working with program and site leadership to develop the team structure and hiring execution plan
- Lead the Thermal Hardware Production Asset Reliability team with an approach that results in maximum machine availability and production throughput
- Act as the primary point of contact for production and process engineering teams on key issues critical to program success
- Ensure appropriate resources are allocated to each and status and results are clearly communicated
- Understand the technical and schedule challenges of the different tile production lines, cells, and equipment and translate these expectations into a positive maintenance strategy and an effective team
- Work with the team and key partners to design and build systems to consistently track and execute maintenance tasks on schedule with minimal impact to line up time
- Lead the team by example in fault finding, maintenance strategy, and personal presentation
- Establish root cause of technical incidents and work to eliminate recurrences
- Catch and eliminate recurring problems, in cooperation with asset owners and process engineers
- Organize multi-month work plans and also react with real-time plans based on the criticality of equipment to company goals
- Ensure spare parts inventory is managed to allow rapid response to critical technical events
- Raise and justify asset improvement projects to ensure long-term sustainability of the maintenance process
- Support project engineers with large equipment refurbishments and new asset introduction
- Advise and support other teams on complex issue resolution and provide feedback on production line designs and layouts from a maintenance-focused perspective
- Coach the asset reliability team to think strategically about downtime prevention and long-term resolution of issues, while maintaining a culture of efficiency and quick reaction to downtime events
- Build relationships with partner teams across facilities/sites to develop a cohesive strategy within the Starship organization
- Maintain organized, efficient, and presentable team workspaces
- Perform day-to-day administrative and management tasks including performance reviews, skills matrix and training, recruiting, and maintenance KPI analysis
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline; OR high school diploma or equivalency certificate AND 5+ years of personnel management experience in a production environment
- 2+ years of experience managing direct reports in a technical leadership role leading engineering, operations, or maintenance staff
- 5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, or aerospace environment
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience implementing and delivering maintenance/reliability programs to new manufacturing systems or similar operations
- Experience with machine or complex system maintenance
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining material processing equipment including mechanical, fluid, chemical, and electrical.
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining continuously operated (24/7) automated, interconnected production systems
- Knowledge of instrumentation, programmable logic controls, and data acquisition and reporting systems
- Demonstrable skills in troubleshooting, fault finding, problem resolution, and breakdown management
- Extremely strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to bring multiple departments with different priorities together and steer them to a common goal
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products and capable of quickly learning a variety of scheduling and other proprietary software
- Proficient in programming languages required to source and analyze data: SQL, Python, etc.
- Work with a computerized maintenance management/resource planning system
- Experience in a role where quick-thinking and problem solving were critical
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
- Physical effort including standing (up to 6 hours) and ability lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted
- Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
- Must be able to work in an industrial environment with fumes/odors, noise, hazardous chemicals, confined spaces
- Must be able to work all shifts, extended hours, and weekends as needed
