COMMISSIONING ENGINEER (STARLINK)
As a member of the Redmond Facilities critical infrastructure team, you will design, build, and activate some of the world’s most technically advanced manufacturing facilities. As an automation & controls engineer, you will develop and build a great variety of automated solutions to aid in rapid R&D, production and critical asset management. The automation & controls Engineer designs, builds, and commissions complete control systems from the ground up. We are looking for talent with an amazing track record in developing, troubleshooting, and maintaining control systems for production and critical infrastructure. This position is based in Redmond, Washington.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design, program, and maintain Building Automation Systems (BAS) / Building Management Systems (BMS) using platforms such as Honeywell and Delta Controls.
- Configure and optimize system graphics, alarms, trends, schedules, and point databases within BAS/BMS platforms.
- Develop and modify control sequences of operation for HVAC systems and other infrastructure systems to improve performance and energy efficiency.
- Install, integrate, and maintain IFM IO-Link sensors and devices to enable advanced telemetry, real-time monitoring, and automated alerting across facility systems.
- Provide commissioning and startup support for new infrastructure, including submittal and sequence of operations review, point-to-point verification, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Testing, Adjusting, Balancing (TAB), and operational handover.
- Perform troubleshooting and root cause analysis on utility equipment and associated control systems.
- Develop data analytics solutions, dashboards, and KPI reports by analyzing alarms, trends, and system performance data.
- Collaborate with network and cybersecurity teams to design, implement, and maintain secure BAS network architecture and firewall configurations.
- Design, develop, and manage IGNITION/SCADA systems for critical facility utilities, including power distribution, compressed air, and other essential systems.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
- 1+ years of professional experience in the design and commissioning of automation and controls systems for industrial applications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years of professional experience in the design and commissioning of automation and controls systems for industrial applications
- Strong hands-on experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS), specifically Honeywell (Niagara Framework) and Delta Controls.
- Proficiency in developing and modifying control sequences of operation for HVAC and facility utility systems.
- Experience with SCADA systems for monitoring and controlling critical utilities (power, compressed air, chilled water, etc.).
- Experience with Field bus networks, serial communication and Ethernet communication.
- PLC Programming Experience
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks, OPC UA, and Ethernet/IP.
- Experience installing, integrating, and maintaining IO-Link sensors and devices, preferably with IFM sensors for telemetry and condition monitoring.
- Strong working knowledge of commercial and industrial HVAC systems including chillers, boilers, pumps, AHUs, CRAC units, and VFR systems and their control strategies.
- Experience with commissioning, startup, and validation of building automation and utility systems (including point-to-point checkout, FAT, and TAB coordination).
- Familiarity with network architecture and cybersecurity best practices for BAS/OT environments.
- Exposure to a wide variety of production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment (vision systems, dispense systems, temperature controllers, laser distance sensors & Nut-Runners, etc.)
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Experience in fast-paced iterative design and manufacturing environments
- Experience solving complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical ability to perform hands-on work in various environments, including heat, cold, rain, and tight quarters
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
- Ability to travel occasionally as required by project needs
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
Level 1: $100,000.00 - $117,500.00
Level 2: $115,000.00 - $140,000.00
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. Company shuttles are offered to employees for roundtrip travel from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office Monday to Friday.
