Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking Staff Software Engineer. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL or Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel program.
Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
Provide technical oversight for test engineering activities performed by the team. Candidate will lead a team that implements many technologies and needs diverse engineering experience.
Candidate will be a thought leader of systems thinking and hardware engineering for both their team and the organization.
Perform as a senior technical leader to support programs and new business efforts. These tasks will include software test plans, software requirements development, and software integration and test strategies.
Responsible for WBS elements assigned to the C2 SW Test team.
Expected to oversee assigned elements using Earned Value Management System (EVMS).
Engage and collaborate with program and functional organizations to obtain, understand, and interpret program resource needs to effectively meet program milestones.
Manage and maintain the day-to-day interfaces and communications between Program Management, Engineering Functionals, Manufacturing, and Global Supply Chain. Resolve issues spanning across Hardware Engineering functional area.
Assess, track, and mitigate cost and schedule risk supported by quantitative and predictive analyses.
Facilitate internal meetings to support design, production, and problem resolution.
Utilize fundamental engineering principles to facilitate production and design changes within the project team that result in superior products within the program budget.
People Leadership:
Provide technical oversight and mentorship to staff to ensure engineering projects in portfolio meet performance objectives
Responsible for direct management of staff and providing directions to the staff
Execute, update, and maintain department procedures
Support organizational engineering initiatives
Leads a team of individual contributors in support of SW integration and qualification.
Develop and direct preparation and execution of HW/SW integration activities to support comprehensive tests and schedules for completing systems
Coordinate SW integration and testing activities working in a dynamic people-focused environment
Direct oversight of SW integration and coordination with lab operations teams
Responsible for the development of SW Test and Integration plans/procedures
Responsible for CDRL deliveries aligned with TPWG and Verification reporting requirements.
Ensuring members have sufficient statement of work and resources are balanced across various efforts.
Coordinating with leadership to ensure appropriate staffing / de-staffing actions are developed and executed relative to their department and managing employee movement.
Rapid response to leadership on requests for programmatic status, and early communication of challenges to execution
Implementation of agile software development practices to support defense contract development programs
Perform as a Technical Leader within the Command-and-Control (C2) Test Organization

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and 12 years of experience; 10 years with a Masters; 18 years of experience in lieu of degree.
U.S. Citizenship with an active DoD secret security clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years and with the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP)
Technical experience in network, computer hardware and software, interconnection, and interfacing technologies
Ability to effectively communicate and present technical details to peers, and stakeholders
Familiarity with product integration, regression, and verification testing
Knowledge of system integration and test principles and processes
Ability to work well in a team environment
Experience with engineering lifecycles such as specifications, architecture, design, implementation, integration, debug and maintenance.
Experience with version control and collaboration tools
Experience applying systems thinking and systems engineering best practices to engineering development programs.
Proven leadership skills as a people and technical leader, and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
2+ Years leading software development teams.
2+ years integrating commercial off the shelf (COTS) and subcontractor submissions with prime deliverables
Familiarity with Software Test Lifecycle in an Agile environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Active DOD Top Secret Clearance
Active Sentinel SAP
Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and lifecycle
5 years prior experience leading a team, projects, and processes; ability to lead and motivate others to mentor and ensure others meet complex objectives.
Experience navigating specifications and requirements in DOORS
Familiarity with Atlassian applications JIRA and Confluence
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management
Thorough understanding of Northrop Grumman test processes and tools
Experience with wide range of embedded devices, such as Micro-controllers, FPGAs, and CPLDs.
Effectively communicate and present to project and program management, other technical managers, and customers.
Excellent technical writing skills, and team building skills.
Demonstrated experience leading a team of technical contributors.
Experience with the Sentinel weapon system, especially Command & Launch.
Effectively communicate and present to project and program management, other technical managers, and customers.

Primary Level Salary Range: $152,900.00 - $253,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
