The Naval & Oceanic Systems business unit, headquartered in Annapolis, MD, is seeking dependable individuals willing to work in a collaborative environment and that are interested in expanding their horizons. The Mechanical Engineering Department is seeking a Mechanical Engineer or a Principal Mechanical Engineer with a structural and thermal analysis and design background to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals.
Essential Functions:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Conduct trade studies to select and evaluate best design approaches to fulfill requirements
Perform linear and non-linear structural analyses of individual components and complex underwater structures using a combination of hand-calculations, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and bolted joint calculations.
Conduct first order structural and kinematic analysis to support equipment design
Oversee the generation of engineering drawings using common GD&T practices
Ensure that designs meet program requirements and are consistent with program schedule and budget objectives
Identify procurement needs and support fabrication
Provide assembly checkout and test support
Generate task plans and support proposal efforts
Able to collaborate in a team environment, prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result, prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously, and comprehend and analyze complex problems and develop solutions
Basic Qualifications of a Mechanical Engineer:
BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace. or equivalent STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of experience in structural and/or thermal analysis or MS degree with 0 years of experience
Excellent verbal and written communication
Proficiency in using common engineering design, production, analysis, and office tools.
US citizen with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI and pass a polygraph.
Basic Qualifications for a Principal Mechanical Engineer:
BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace. or equivalent STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of experience in structural and/or thermal analysis or MS degree with 3 years of experience
Excellent verbal and written communication
Proficiency in using common engineering design, production, analysis, and office tools.
US citizen with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI and pass a polygraph.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with undersea vehicle and system design
Experience with interpreting and applying GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2009)
Experience with manufacturing design elements including: welding, machining, casting, forging
Proficiency in using Finite Element Analysis tools (FEMAP/Nastran or ANSYS), bolted joint analysis, and structural hand calculations.
Experience with analysis tools such as Matlab, MathCAD, and thermal analysis tools such as IcePak, CFDesign, Simcenter Flow/Thermal, and ANSYS/APDL
Experience with Siemens NX
Active Secret Security Clearance

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,600.00 - $119,400.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,900.00 - $148,300.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
