Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Guidance, Navigation, & Control Engineer or a Guidance, Navigation, & Control Principal Engineer. This position will be located in San Diego, CA.
In this role, you will work in a multi-disciplinary team environment to design, develop, implement, verify, and test algorithms, software, and simulation tools to perform Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) of aircraft.
Responsibilities may include:
- Develop control laws to meet air vehicle performance, flying qualities and stability margin requirements, both on ground and in flight.
- Develop air vehicle system linear and non-linear dynamic simulation models and integrate models into software and hardware-in-the-loop simulation environments.
- Develop the next generation of navigation technology.
- Interface with strategic supplier partners and coordinating with adopting programs to ensure technical requirements are properly incorporated into design solutions.
- Analyze air vehicle flight test data and support flight test activities.
- Utilize excellent communication, analysis and problem-solving skills
This role can be filled at either the Engineer Level or the Principal Engineer Level.
Basic Qualifications for Engineer:
Must have a Bachelors degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) field and at least 2 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field with at least some relevant academic experience.
Must have knowledge of fixed-wing aircraft flight dynamics
Must have experience using MATLAB to create, process, analyze, and visually represent data
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs
Basic Qualifications for Principal Engineer:
Must have a Bachelors degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) field and at least 5 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field with at least 3 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a Ph.D. and at least 1 year of relevant military / professional experience.
Must have knowledge of fixed-wing aircraft flight dynamics
Must have experience using MATLAB to create, process, analyze, and visually represent data
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret within a reasonable amount of time as determined by business needs
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink
Experience using linear control principles and tools to design feedback control systems
Experience analyzing non-linear simulations of aircraft closed-loop dynamics
Good understanding of the GPS system, the GPS Signal in Space characteristics, DGPS systems, inertial sensors, GPS/INS, tightly coupled Kalman filters, GPS receiver design, alternative PNT solutions
Proficiency with test equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, signal analyzers, multi-meters)
Supplier management experience
An active DoD Top Secret clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
