Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for you to join our team as an Experimental Machinist 4 based in Salt Lake City, UT.
As an Experimental Machinist 4, you will be responsible for the setup, operation, and customization of a variety of machine tools to fabricate experimental prototypes and specialized components. You will work closely with engineering teams to support product development and refinement, utilizing your expertise in advanced machining techniques and processes. You will also be expected to perform quality checks and troubleshooting throughout the fabrication process to ensure adherence to project specifications and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Set up and operate CNC and manual machining equipment to create complex parts from engineering drawings and specifications.
Collaborate with engineers to understand project requirements and suggest improvements based on machining capabilities.
Conduct tests on prototypes and perform necessary adjustments to meet specifications.
Inspect and measure finished components to verify compliance with standards using precision measurement tools.
Document machining processes, outcomes, and any deviations from project plans.
Maintain a safe and clean work environment in accordance with safety regulations.
Train and mentor junior machinists and assist in their skill development.
The ideal candidate will be possess effective communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
Basic Qualifications for the Experimental Machinist 4:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a machinist apprenticeship preferred.
Minimum of 6 years of experience in machining, with a focus on experimental or prototype fabrication.
Experience operating CNC lathes, mills, and other metalworking machinery.
Experience with machining principles, blueprints, and technical drawings.
Experience with quality control processes and precision measuring instruments.
Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.
US citizenship required.
Preferred Qualifications for the Experimental Machinist 4:
Associate degree in Machine Tool Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
Experience with CAD/CAM software for designing and programming machining operations.
Experience with advanced materials and their machining characteristics.
Experience problem-solving and applying critical thinking to optimize machining processes.
Previous experience in a research and development environment is a plus.
