Northrop Grumman has an opening for a Director of Business Development 1 Logistics and Servicing to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in McLean, VA.  This role supports our Logistics and Servicing business whose innovations have enabled a space industrial revolution by supporting and maintaining assets in space which has never been done before now.

As a key member of the Logistics and Servicing Operating Unit, the Director of Business Development serves as a strategic partner to shape, communicate, and drive the execution of our   Business with focus on Business Development and Capture strategy. This role collaborates across functions and programs focused on a breadth of capabilities including Space Domain Awareness (SDA) mission capabilities as well as in-space servicing capabilities such as spacecraft mission extension vehicles as well as in-space refueling. More specifically, the portfolio includes programs such as the RG-XX mission, the Mission Extension Vehicle (MEV), Mission Extension Pods (MEPs), Mission Robotic Vehicle (MRV), in-space refueling, and future ISAM/SML applications for U.S. and allied government customers including civil, defense, and intelligence.  This Director of Business Development will engage regularly with Northrop Grumman Business Unit, Division, and Sector counterparts, industry leaders, government customers, and industry consortiums and regulators to position Northrop Grumman for sustained growth and success.   

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy and Execution:

  • Work with the business leadership to establish long-term business strategy then develop and execute growth plans that align with this strategy.
  • Identify and mitigate business risks, evaluate mission-area priorities, and conduct business analyses to support recommendations.

Leadership in Business Growth:

  • Lead activities in every capture phase to drive sales to closure—from identifying/creating opportunities to protecting and growing existing business. 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external industry partners to meet strategic objectives.
  • Participate and acquire leadership roles in emerging industry consortiums to shape the emerging standards and global policies to encourage/enable growth of the satellite servicing market.
  • Support marketing and business communications to raise awareness of capabilities and opportunities they bring to meet customer needs.

Governance and Compliance:

  • Ensure all business development efforts align with Northrop Grumman and government regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure our products and services are properly licensed for operations
  • Support technical and financial assessments of space insurance placements and claims of our space assets

Market and Competitive Insights:

  • Support competitive analyses, pricing activities, and resource allocation for targeted capture opportunities.

People and Relationship Management:

  • Build trust and strong partnerships with customer decision-makers, team members, and industry collaborators to sustain long-term growth.
  • Provide strategic oversight of discretionary investment projects and measure performance to track impact against business goals.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 10 years of experience in the aerospace or defense industry with focus on space
  • Deep familiarity with Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) acquisition processes.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance at the time of application.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in business development, program management, or engineering management.
  • Proven ability to travel up to 25% per month.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Technical knowledge of space and satellite operations.
  • Experience maintaining relationships with executives, customer decision-makers, and industry partners.
  • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams on complex business development activities.
  • Strategic planning, P&L responsibility, and investment planning experience.
  • Financial acumen for business modelling and accounting practices.
  • Knowledge of commercial space licensing requirements and processes
  • Knowledge of space insurance process
  • Strong communication and briefing skills are suitable for executive audiences.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of various government contract types (FFP, IDIQ, T&M).

Primary Level Salary Range: $203,900.00 - $305,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
