Job Description
Summary
You will serve as a Supervisory Electronics Technician (Branch Chief) for the Avionics/Instrumentation Branch located at Armstrong Flight Research Center on Edwards Airforce Base. The position is responsible for ensuring adherence to NASA policies using branch resources and technical guidance. You will supervise a team of highly skilled technicians working on extremely complex avionics and instrumentation systems to be installed on highly modified aerospace research vehicles.

Duties
- Defines project work and technical requirements; evaluates organization and employee accomplishments by accepting or rejecting work products; and presents organizational products to senior management and other offices.
- Develops maintenance standards and procedures and provides employees with resources and information which ensures a safe and healthy work environment.
- Develops, tests, and performs work on electronic equipment by applying knowledge of electronic theory, circuit design, and the operating characteristics of electronic equipment that may be familiar or unfamiliar.
- Supports professional engineers with experiments, research, and development activities requiring in-depth knowledge of technical engineering methods, applications, practices, and principles to further concepts, prototypes, and experimental projects.
- Analyzes and diagnoses faults in the operational configuration of electronic systems and equipment of test aircraft.
- Interprets circuit wiring, logic cable diagrams, drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete systems and equipment to understand the function and interconnections of the various assemblies.
- Performs a full range of supervisory duties which includes assigning and evaluating work; recommending personnel actions; taking disciplinary actions; and identifying training needs and developing employees.
Requirements
- Current Federal employees must meet qualifications, time in grade, and 90 days after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

- Subject to completion of a one-year supervisory probationary period.
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service:
- Leading or working on projects for test aircraft in both the avionics and instrumentation disciplines;
- Identifying needed resources for electronic requirements involving highly modified or unique test aircraft; and
- Modifying electronic components of test aircraft based on analyses and diagnoses of faults.
