Expected outcomes
- Consistently deliver correctly assembled and installed wiring harnesses and cable assemblies that fully match drawings, specifications, and work instructions, requiring minimal rework.
- Perform accurate inspections, continuity checks, and basic electrical tests on harness assemblies, reliably identifying and documenting any nonâconformances.
- Apply IPC/WHMAâAâ620 workmanship and quality standards in daily work, contributing to a measurable reduction in defects and improving firstâpass yield.
- Support effective troubleshooting and rework of harness assemblies under supervision, resolving issues within agreed turnaround times.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and traceable documentation, including traveler sheets and quality records, in line with internal processes and audit requirements.
- Handle wires, connectors, shielding, and protective coverings with a high level of precision, ensuring mechanical robustness and electrical reliability of all produced harnesses.
- Adhere to cleanroom and ESD handling procedures at all times, helping to prevent contamination or ESDârelated damage and ensuring a safe, compliant working environment.
Requirements
Role-specific competencies
Cable and harness assembly experience
Demonstrates 1â3 years of hands-on experience in cable or harness assembly (including internships or vocational projects), ideally within aerospace, electronics, or other highâreliability environments.
Practical assembly skills
Proficient in crimping, soldering, wire stripping, lacing, and connector assembly, applying repeatable, high-quality workmanship to all harness builds.
Technical drawing and documentation literacy
Able to read and interpret assembly drawings, wiring tables, and work instructions accurately, and translate them into correct physical builds.
Workmanship standards application
Understands the fundamentals of workmanship standards such as IPC/WHMAâAâ620 and can apply them in daily work; willing and able to build on this through formal training or certification.
Fine motor skills and attention to detail
Shows strong manual dexterity and precision when working with small wires, terminals, and connectors, maintaining a consistently low defect and rework rate.
Relevant technical education
Holds a vocational/technical qualification or equivalent training in electronics, electrical, or mechanical assembly, and can apply this knowledge in a production environment.
Communication in English
Communicates effectively in English, both written and spoken, to understand work instructions, document work, and collaborate with engineers and team members.
Beneficial competencies
Space/aerospace/defense harness experience
Previous exposure to harness assembly for space, aerospace, or defense applications, understanding the associated reliability and traceability expectations.
Coaxial and shielded cable assembly
Familiar with building and terminating coaxial and other shielded cables, including correct handling of shields, braids, and grounding schemes.
Harness testing familiarity
Basic experience with harness test equipment such as continuity testers and pullâtest machines, and ability to interpret and act on test results.
Quality systems awareness
Experience working within formal quality management systems (e.g. ISO 9001, AS9100), following controlled procedures, documentation, and nonâconformance handling.
Formal IPC certification
Possesses IPC/WHMAâAâ620 certification (CIS or CIT) or equivalent, evidencing a validated understanding of industry-accepted workmanship criteria.
Industry standards and context awareness
Understands that cable and harness assemblies for space and aerospace are built to the highest reliability levels, and is familiar or willing to become familiar with additional relevant standards such as ESA ECSS, MILâSTD connectors, and NASA workmanship practices.
