Systems Engineer (Senior) V&V - Air
Job Description
Who we are
Helsing is a defence AI company. Our mission is to protect our democracies. We aim to achieve technological leadership, so that open societies can continue to make sovereign decisions and control their ethical standards.
As democracies, we believe we have a special responsibility to be thoughtful about the development and deployment of powerful technologies like AI. We take this responsibility seriously.
We are an ambitious and committed team of engineers, AI specialists and customer-facing programme managers. We are looking for mission-driven people to join our European teams – and apply their skills to solve the most complex and impactful problems. We embrace an open and transparent culture that welcomes healthy debates on the use of technology in defence, its benefits, and its ethical implications.
The role
You will join the chief engineering team developing the world's first AI-enabled electronic warfare capability for a 4+ generation fighter jet, guiding the system from concept to maiden flight. Serving as the central authority for all validation and verification (V&V) models, you will execute critical engineering activities and integrate complex systems. Your work will directly shape the overall system and software V&V strategy, define process and tool chains, and ensure full compliance with rigorous aerospace standards. By collaborating closely with the AI software team, you will guarantee that the developed software meets stringent contractual qualification requirements and delivers decisive impact for the end user.
The day-to-day
-
Create simulation models of systems and units, seamlessly integrating them into Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SiL) environments
-
Architect high-fidelity plant models and virtual prototypes using MATLAB/Simulink, Ansys SCADE, or C++ to simulate aircraft components, electronic warfare behaviours, RF environments, and aircraft dynamics
-
Engineer in-house tools to automate test procedures, integrating them with the requirements base and complex test environments to generate rapid, reliable results
-
Negotiate system qualification requirements and Means of Compliance (MoC) with customers, deriving and validating high-level software performance metrics alongside software leads
-
Enhance the traceability of system qualification requirements across all software development artefacts, shaping a comprehensive V&V product strategy that ensures successful final qualification
-
Collaborate with project management to plan V&V activities, monitor technical progress, and prepare compliance documentation for certification standards.
-
Lead the final software product qualification activities with both customer and authorities
-
Collaborate closely with our quality assurance team to ensure that all V&V deliverables adhere to established quality standards. Address any issues promptly to maintain the integrity of the project
-
Provide regular updates on the V&V status and any technical issues identified to the Chief Engineering and Program Management teams, ensuring all stakeholders are informed of significant developments
You should apply if you
-
Have successfully led validation and verification activities for avionics or electronic warfare systems, from initial requirements definition to final qualification
-
Possess deep expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), demonstrating practical proficiency in translating high-level natural language requirements into formal executable models using tools like Cameo Systems Modeler, Enterprise Architect, or IBM Rhapsody
-
Have engineered test environments and automated tools for executing V&V activities in strict compliance with industry guidelines (ARP4754A)
-
Have verified, validated, and tested embedded software for complex avionics or electronic warfare systems currently in service, ensuring alignment with DO-178C standards
-
Have successfully navigated final qualification review processes and established effective working relationships with civil or military aviation authorities
-
Hold a degree in aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, physics, computer science, or possess equivalent practical expertise in resolving complex technical challenges
-
Have the ability to report and present results clearly and effectively to both internal and external stakeholders
-
Excel in teamwork, with the ability to coordinate and guide the team to meet aerospace standards
Note: We operate in an industry where women, as well as other minority groups, are systematically under-represented. We encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet all the listed qualifications; ability and impact cannot be summarised in a few bullet points.
Nice to have
-
Have prior experience participating in Stage of Involvement (SOI) activities or formal panel meetings with aviation authorities
-
Demonstrate a strong background in integrating advanced AI or machine learning models into traditional aerospace engineering frameworks
