SUMMARY

Firefly has year round engineering focused internship opportunities for our locations in Texas. Both current undergrads and new graduates are encouraged to apply. As a Firefly Intern, you will support Continuous Improvement Engineers by looking for ways to improve yield and flow, while reducing defects and cycle times.

Ideal candidates will have knowledge in specific areas such as Mechanical Design, Electrical Engineering, Fluid Systems, Testing, Propulsion systems, etc. You will have the opportunity to gain experience developing novel solutions for challenging problems. Requires high levels of creativity, flexibility, and collaboration. The ability to communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural group is an absolute must.

RESPONSIBILITIES

You will be involved in any combination of the following activities during your internship:

  • Identify areas of cost and waste reductions based on manufacturing value stream mapping findings.
  • Optimize a wide variety of processes to reach product quality, efficiency, and process repeatability through lean, agile, and six sigma practices.
  • Execute lean manufacturing techniques and design, such as root cause analysis, mistake-proofing, and pull systems.
  • Optimize workflow and work cell designs to introduce cost-effective automation for productivity, such as 6S.
  • Provide ROI justifications for change and track cost and waste reductions for process improvements.
  • Plan, execute, and manage business and/or manufacturing projects to completion through continuous improvement methods and tools.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop new innovative concepts for reducing waste in our production lines and manage the implementation of solutions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Must be currently enrolled in either a BS or MS program (or a recent graduate) at an accredited four-year university or college.
  • Willing to work in a hands-on and constantly evolving environment.
  • Detail orientated, managing multiple priorities while maintaining focus towards a common goal.
  • Communicates effectively, both verbal and written.
  • Able to prioritize and execute tasks.

Desired:

Candidates should preferably have a focus in one of the following areas:

  • Lean and Continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge in specific areas such as fluid systems, test, and composites.

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
