Senior Systems Safety Engineering - Safety Management

The Boeing Chief Aerospace Safety Office (CASO) is seeking a Senior (Level 4 or Level 5) Systems Safety Engineer - Safety Management System (SMS) to join our team on site in Everett, WA or Seattle, WA.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in developing, implementing, and managing safety management systems within the aviation or related industries. We are looking for experience in leadership, technical portfolio execution, program, process, and project management, building and maintaining strong working partnerships with teammates, Sr. Executives, and other stakeholders, and flexibility to support various time zones. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and fostering a culture of safety throughout the organization.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the Safety Management System in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Conduct safety risk assessments and hazard analyses to identify potential safety issues and recommend mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote safety awareness and ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures
  • Monitor and analyze safety performance metrics, preparing reports and presentations for management and stakeholders
  • Facilitate safety training programs and workshops to enhance employee knowledge and engagement in safety practices
  • Lead investigations of safety incidents and accidents, ensuring thorough documentation and follow-up on corrective actions
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, and best practices related to safety management systems
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related inquiries and audits from regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at Everett, WA or Seattle, WA.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • Level 4: 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Level 5: 14+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of experience in safety management systems, preferably in the aviation industry
  • 3+ years of experience in roles in engaging senior level executives and/or customers
  • 3+ years of experience collecting, interpreting data, and managing high level projects for executives or senior leadership
  • Experience in developing and executing integrated departmental plans, policies and procedures
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across various departments

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills and Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience performing system safety analysis and/or studies 
  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, standards, and best practices (e.g., ICAO, FAA, QMS)
  • Proficient in safety management software and tools
  • Certification in Safety Management Systems (e.g., SMS Lead Auditor, ISO 45001) is a plus

Summary Pay Range:

  • Senior (Level 4): $141,100 - $190,900
  • Lead (Level 5): $170,850 - $231,150
