The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Senior Software Architect to support our Space Mission Systems (SMS) Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) Global Satellite Configuration Control Element (GSCCE) team in Colorado Springs, CO or El Segundo, CA. This Software Engineering leader will lead the technical approaches, design, and architecture of the GSCCE modernization effort.

These teams build the next generation products and services for the Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS) business unit. Working with commercial, government, and proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements, design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

The GSCCE is the operational command element for the Wideband Global SATCOM constellation. As the ground-based configuration and control system, it allocates high-capacity, secure bandwidth, manages satellite and network configurations, deploys software updates, and monitors system health and cybersecurity. By transforming a global fleet of satellites into an adaptive, resilient communications backbone, the GSCCE enables reliable, high-throughput connectivity for military and coalition forces worldwide.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Supervises and directs the design, development, analysis, and maintenance of satellite software systems.

  • Partners with appropriate stakeholders to oversee translation of software requirements and models that meet customer, operational and performance requirements.

  • Leads completion of software system-level analyses to identify risk, issues and opportunities.

  • Directs code reviews to ensure alignment to requirements and standards. 

  • Coordinates review of product and process for alignment with project plans and industry standards.

  • Researches and oversees implementation of current and emerging software technologies, tools, and frameworks.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience): 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret Security Clearance

  • 12+ years of experience in foundational Computer Science knowledge and object-oriented design and software patterns 

  • 4+ years of experience leading software development efforts

  • 2+ years of experience as a software architect

  • Experience in Agile software development environment and DevOps methodologies

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.

  • 10+ years’ experience in Java/C++ programming on full stack software projects/programs 

  • Experience with satellite ground mission capabilities, products, and/or customers

  • Experience with one or more of the following: HTML, CSS, JavaScript and JS frameworks (REACT, jQuery UI, Open Layers, etc.), Spring Framework, Hibernate, RDBMS, MongoDB, REST, and OpenAPI 

  • Experience using dependency management (e.g. Ivy, Maven, Gradle) 

  • Experience developing and maintaining SOAP, RMI, REST APIs and interfaces 

  • Experience using cloud-based infrastructure (e.g. AWS) 

  • Experience using an automation server (e.g. Jenkins) 

  • Familiarity with practices such as test-driven development (TDD), agile software development, or CI/CD management

  • Familiarity with Agile or SAFe practices, including daily standup, User Stories, Sprints, PI planning and Release Planning 

  • Experience with DevSecOps and continuous integration 

  • Active DoD Secret clearance

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.   

Summary pay range / Senior: $177,650 - $257,600

Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
