The Boeing Company is currently seeking DevSecOps Software Engineer to support our Common Embedded Product Composition team located in Daytona Beach, Florida | Long Beach, California | Mesa, Arizona | Plano, Texas or Saint Louis, Missouri. This position will focus on supporting the Enterprise Software Verticals (ESV) organization.  

Join our Enterprise Software team to design and deliver a common embedded software that will be deployed across Boeing’s entire portfolio—commercial airplanes, defense systems, space vehicles, rotary-wing platforms, and autonomous systems. In this exciting role, you will have a unique opportunity to directly support exciting new Boeing projects, from autonomous electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircrafts to air superiority aircrafts critical to our nation's defense. You’ll build safety- and security-first software that scales from flight-critical avionics to mission systems and everything in-between.  

The ideal candidate will be working at the intersection of RTOS/virtualization, hardware abstraction, while also learning exciting new Hardware platforms and develop approaches to satisfy rigorous certification requirements. This role is at the cutting edge of next‑gen DevSecOps for embedded systems, using the latest and best tooling available in industry: you will implement automated CI/CD pipelines for safety-critical code, shift-left security and verification, continuous integration of hardware-in-the-loop tests, modern update strategies, and repeatable compliance artifacts to accelerate certification across programs.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate and Experienced Level Software Engineers. 

Position Responsibilities:  

  • Automates, develops, monitors, improves, and troubleshoots across software engineering development, tooling, testing, integration, deployment, configuration processes, and security controls. 

  • Analyzes, plans, and executes mitigation strategies to prevent potential security risks, threats, and vulnerabilities. 

  • Implements an environment that enables high levels of quality, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement across the organization. 

  • Supports collaboration with cross functional teams to build and maintain robust, scalable, and secure software engineering systems. 

  • Implements current and emerging technologies, tools, frameworks, and regulations in the software engineering DevSecOps environment. 

  • Develops, documents and maintains standardized, efficient, and innovative processes, tools, methodologies, and performance metrics to streamline the software engineering lifecycle and enable continuous integration, delivery, and deployment of safety critical software. 

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience): 

  • 3+ years of experience in modern programming languages such as C, C++, Python or Java 

  • 3+ years of experience with Development Operations (DevOps) and/or Development Security Operations (DevSecOps) 

 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience): 

  • Experience in Real Time Operating Systems such as VxWorks, DEOS, Integrity-178 

  • Experience in; GitLab CI/CD, Bazel, Docker containers and devcontainers, VectorCAST instrumentation, RTOS Compilers 

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science. 

  • Level 2: 3 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Level 3: 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Knowledge of cloud architecture, including the different types of clouds (public, private, and hybrid), the different cloud platforms and the various components involved (computing, storaging and networking). Ability to automate and script skills.

  • Knowledge of containerization technologies which includes understanding how to manage containers, deploy applications in a containerized environment, and troubleshoot issues. Knowledge of understanding of networking concepts, including IP addressing, subnetting, routing, and security (focus on security best practices and technologies). 

  • Knowledge of cultural philosophies, practices and tools required for continuous integration and continuous delivery to deliver applications and services with increased velocity and in line with security requirements. 

  • Knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Engineering departments/disciplines (e.g., design, test, software, technology, avionics). Knowledge of the interaction between departments/disciplines and how their products/processes affect one another and impact non-engineering processes (e.g., Operations, Logistics, Business). 

  • Knowledge of specification format requirements, guidelines, and change control processes. Understanding of relationship between specifications/standards and aircraft/product certification systems. 

  • Knowledge of host environments, including processors, operating systems and networks. Ability to build, integrate and troubleshoot software components. 

  • Knowledge of software programming languages and databases and the ability to apply to the software domain. Programming languages encompass higher order languages, auto-coded languages and assembly languages. 

  • Ability to develop new network technology. Knowledge of network communication concepts, principles and architectures, associated with network planning, design, integration and maintenance. End-to-end knowledge of network transport technologies, systems, environments, services, protocols, performance monitoring and diagnostic analysis. Knowledge of network security techniques, network management practices and principles. 

  • Knowledge of general and software development and testing tools, capability and usage. Examples include compilers, linkers, debuggers, data analysis tools, graphical user interface builders, post processing tools, requirements management tools, and web authoring tools. 

  • Knowledge of domains, characteristics, constraints and products that require software and influence architecture, requirements, interfaces, designs, and integration/test approaches. Domain examples include data processing, ground support, tools and analysis models. Examples of characteristics and constraints that impact software include operating systems, fidelity and information processing capacity. Examples of products include aircraft, missiles, airborne/shipboard/space systems/ground-based support systems. 

  • Ability to design and develop automation of software tests, execute automated tests, track results, manage test data, and utilize results to improve software quality. 

  • Ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one area on another area. This includes the ability to see and understand the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.   

 

Summary pay range for Associate Level (Level 2): $85,000 - $133,400  

Summary pay range for Experienced Level (Level 3): $104,550 - $162,150
