Business Systems Architect

An opportunity has arisen for a Business Systems Architect to join a small, dedicated IT capability within the UK that leverages the extensive IT resources of the worldwide Boeing Company to deliver complex solutions to the business and its clients.

The Business Systems Architect bridges business strategy and technology by translating high-level goals into technical requirements, creating capability maps, value streams, and roadmaps, ensuring systems and capabilities align with organisational objectives and enterprise strategy. They focus on improving efficiency, security, and performance while collaborating with stakeholders, technical teams, and vendors. Key duties include developing business system architecture, supporting governance, and advising on strategic improvements to deliver business value.

The successful candidate must gain the confidence of both business and technical staff, acting as a conduit between these groups at national and international levels. They will be a strong communicator, able to present ideas, facilitate workshops, and elicit needs from the business. The candidate should be a self-starter with experience working in a matrix organisation and the ability to discuss ideas and concepts with staff at all levels. Stakeholder engagement is a critical aspect of this role.

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future

Position Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Alignment: Align technology roadmaps with business strategy ensuring IT delivers measurable outcomes.
  • Architecture Creation:  Develop enterprise architecture artefacts (capability maps, value streams, information and organisational models) and align them to long‑term business and funding plans.
  • Requirements Translation: Convert complex business needs into implementation artifacts (system integration and data models, non‑functional requirements, and migration plans).
  • Improvement & Innovation: Assess systems to quantify technical debt and risk, and produce prioritised modernisation, consolidation or decommissioning roadmaps.
  • Delivery oversight: Oversee design through to successful delivery — guide implementation, actively support delivery teams to resolve design and integration issues.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with executives, business leaders, IT Business Partners, technical architects, and vendors.
  • Governance & Standards: Support IT governance frameworks and ensure adherence to architecture, security and compliance standards (MOD, DEFSTAN/JSP, ITAR, EAR).

 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Proven record of delivering business value from technology.
  • Senior architecture leadership experience (Enterprise, Business Systems, or Solution Architect).
  • Experience evaluating systems to quantify technical debt, integration risk and producing prioritised modernisation or consolidation roadmaps.
  • Skilled in designing applications and platforms: defining system boundaries, data flows, APIs, integration points, and information models.
  • Able to produce core architecture artifacts: solution diagrams, data models, API contracts, non‑functional requirements, and migration plans.
  • Track record of guiding technical design through delivery: authoring design/deployment guidance and collaborating with delivery teams to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Strong communicator and self‑starter with excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills; able to explain technical concepts to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Comfortable with multiple delivery methodologies (Waterfall, Agile, DevOps) and experienced operating in large, international, matrixed environments.

 

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Defence sector experience.
  • Knowledge of MOD maintenance, equipment, engineering and supply‑chain processes, and relevant standards/compliance (MOD O/S, DEFSTAN/JSP, ITAR, EAR).
  • Experience designing, implementing or enhancing SAP ERP, MRO, and PLM systems.
  • Experience with cloud architectures (AWS and/or Azure)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 tenant governance and application integrations.
  • Degree-level education

 

Security Clearance

This position requires the ability to acquire a UK security Clearance for which the UK Government requires UK residency. The successful candidate will hold, or have the ability to acquire, Security Clearance (SC).

Work Authorisation: 

This requisition is for a locally hired position in the United Kingdom. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants. Benefits and pay are determined at the local level and are not part of Boeing U.S. based payroll.
