SVP, Manufacturing Operations

Job Description

Application close date:

Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

The Opportunity

Blue Origin is building multiple spacecraft simultaneously—orbital rockets, lunar landers, rocket engines, and suborbital systems—all while preparing for the next generation of space vehicles. As SVP of Manufacturing Operations, you'll own the entire manufacturing enterprise: the strategy, the systems, the people, and the P&L that transforms cutting-edge designs into flight hardware across every program.

This isn't a single-product manufacturing challenge. This is orchestrating a multi-billion-dollar manufacturing ecosystem spanning launch vehicles, propulsion systems, lunar exploration hardware, and new product introductions—all while scaling operations to meet humanity's accelerating demand for space access.

The Challenge

Blue Origin is in the midst of unprecedented growth. New Glenn is ramping to high-rate orbital launch. BE-4 engines are powering both our vehicles and our partners'. Blue Moon is returning America to the lunar surface. New Shepard continues flying. And future programs that will enable us to innovate.

Your mission: Build and lead the enterprise-wide manufacturing capability that enables all of this simultaneously. You'll own full P&L responsibility across the following programs: New Glenn, Engine, Lunar, New Shepard, and New Product Introduction (NPI).

This requires synthesizing multiple complex programs into a unified manufacturing strategy while maintaining the execution discipline that spaceflight demands.

What You'll Do

Own Enterprise Manufacturing Strategy

  • Drive P&L accountability for Blue Origin's entire manufacturing operation across multiple sites and product lines
  • Develop and deploy enterprise-wide manufacturing architecture that scales with aggressive growth trajectories
  • Ensure manufacturing readiness and ramp rates across all programs while optimizing resource allocation
  • Align workforce planning, capital investments, and manufacturing systems to support both current production and future NPI efforts

Deliver Operational Excellence at Scale

  • Lead manufacturing operations for ~5,000+ employees across multiple facilities and product lines
  • Implement factory flow optimizations that maximize throughput, and learning curve acceleration across a variety of manufacturing environments
  • Drive production efficiency improvements that deliver measurable impact on cost, quality, and schedule
  • Establish data-driven planning systems and real-time performance dashboards that enable proactive decision-making across the enterprise

Lead Transformational Change

  • Build and develop world-class manufacturing leadership teams across all programs
  • Champion large-scale organizational change that shapes culture, defines standardized processes, and elevates capabilities company-wide
  • Deploy Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies across the manufacturing ecosystem
  • Create a unified manufacturing operations community while respecting the unique requirements of each program

Enable Strategic Growth

  • Partner with executive leadership to align manufacturing strategy with company vision and growth plans
  • Communicate clear vision and tactical execution plans for cost-effective manufacturing strategies
  • Build manufacturing readiness for new programs from concept through production ramp
  • Export best practices across Blue Origin's manufacturing enterprise while fostering innovation

What You Bring

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of manufacturing leadership with full P&L ownership for multi-product, multi-site operations
  • Proven experience scaling organizations >5,000 employees in integrated supply chain environments
  • Track record of aggressive rate increases and achieving company-level production goals across multiple programs
  • Deep expertise in manufacturing, production, assembly, procurement, and logistics in high-complexity environments
  • Demonstrated success driving large-scale improvements in production efficiency and organizational growth
  • High-volume manufacturing process development with proven ability to ramp production rates and drive manufacturing excellence
  • Transformational leadership skills—you architect organizational change, develop executive-level talent, and build high-performing teams
  • BA/BS degree in Operations Management, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 20+ years in aerospace manufacturing (launch vehicles, aircraft, propulsion systems) or analogous industries requiring precision and scale (automotive, shipbuilding, heavy equipment, energy)
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Operations, or Business
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma expertise with applied experience driving measurable results
  • Multi-process manufacturing knowledge: machining, composites, aerostructures, welding, harness fabrication, propulsion component manufacturing
  • Change leadership experience that demonstrates ability to challenge status quo and implement new business models
  • Strategic communication skills that inspire teams, align stakeholders, and drive customer satisfaction
  • Proven ability to build inclusive, trust-based cultures that attract and develop top talent
