This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will author detailed work instructions in support of factory operations and contributing to hands on assistance at the shop floor utilizing schedules, parts, tools, engineering designs and processes to ensure a robust, reproducible and repeatable build plan that provides configuration control to the product. Ensures that engineering requirements are incorporated into the build from a hands-on technical perspective, ensures production data can be properly recorded, and non-conformance dispositions are released and can be worked. Provides manufacturing shop assistance, ship side support and build plan support. Supports the development of build plans at the cell and factory level.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Evaluate the feasibility of requests for machined parts based on part complexity, material type, tolerances, and shop capacity and capabilities
  • Read, interpret, and identify challenging machined features and tolerances on engineering drawings and models
  • Provide customers with feedback and support in Design for Manufacturability (DfM)
  • Negotiate with customers to establish reasonable delivery expectations
  • Work with machinists to determine appropriate manufacturing processes and raw materials
  • Provide machinists with thoroughly vetted and error-free work request packages
  • Order and track materials and tools and stage them at the appropriate work station
  • Develop relationships with alternative internal and external resources and coordinate manufacturing with them where capacity or capabilities are not available locally
  • Manage the scheduling and prioritization of work
  • Purchase raw materials that meet engineering and manufacturing requirements
  • Create and maintain an inventory of standard, commonly used materials
  • Operate basic machinery such as saws and grinders and utilize basic hand tools as needed
  • Create work order instructions for both machine shop operations and external operations such as NDT, dimensional inspection, precision cleaning, etc.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all current and potential customers within Blue Origin

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • 5+ years in a machine shop environment
  • Extremely customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of different skills across large geographic distances.
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc).
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
  • Background in scheduling and planning in a manufacturing setting
  • A customer-centric approach to actively facilitate functional solutions with minimal direction
  • Willingness to push back on unreasonable design elements or schedule demands
  • Able to work as a part of team in a fast-paced, constantly evolving and dynamic environment
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years as a machinist, programmer, or operator
  • Background in owning machined part processing from programming, set up, machining, troubleshooting, and inspection
  • Familiar with scheduling and time/cost-estimation for machined parts
  • Understanding of the challenges associated with machining a wide variety of hard and soft materials including Inconel, ceramics, stainless steel, aluminum, and plastics
  • Experience in fast-paced environments
  • Excellent understanding of engineering drawings and GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2009
  • Familiar with Design for Manufacturing (DfM) and providing DfM feedback to engineers
  • Exposure to multi-axis lathes, mills, and EDMs
  • Additional machining and fabrication experience including welding, grinding, honing, waterjet, sheet metal forming and processing, etc.
  • Tooling and fixture design
  • Experience operating heavy lifting equipment such as cranes and forklifts

Must be physically able to:

  • Climb stairs and work in small areas
  • Support production floor activities
  • Lift and carry 40 lbs


 

Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $104,027.00 - $145,637.10

  • Required for Certain Job Profiles: Drivers who operate Commercial Motor Vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW), Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) or combination of power unit and trailer that meets or exceeds 10,001 lbs. and/or transports placardable amounts of hazardous materials by ground in any vehicle on a public road while in commerce, may be subject to additional Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations including: Driver Qualification Files, Medical Certification (obtained before onboarding), Road Test, Hours of Service, Drug and Alcohol Testing (CDL drivers only), vehicle inspection requirements, CDL requirements (if applicable) and hazardous materials transportation/shipping training.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
