This role supports the SFB Data Analytics & Technology team, which provides critical data analytics and technology development capabilities to Blue Origin's Operations and Strategy, Finance & Business (SFB) organization.
As a Business Intelligence Engineer III on the SFB Data Analytics & Technology team, you will be a strong individual contributor who leads your own analytics and data solution projects across the ORBIT platform and other emerging SFB initiatives. Your work will center on designing KPI frameworks, architecting dimensional models and semantic layers, and delivering insight-driven solutions that translate complex business data into clear, actionable intelligence. You will work deeply with Databricks and Blue Origin's broader data ecosystem, building robust data pipelines, and integrating with enterprise APIs to power the analytics experiences that leadership depends on. You will collaborate closely with business leaders, data owners, operations and finance stakeholders throughout Blue Origin to structure ambiguous problems and deliver scalable transformative solutions that directly support decision-making at the highest levels of the company.
Your day-to-day activities will include designing and optimizing complex SQL and semantic layers, architecting dimensional models and data marts, implementing data quality checks and pipeline observability, and building parameterized BI assets tuned for performance. You will prototype custom visualizations using lightweight web components and SDKs, and develop persona-tailored data stories with cross-domain context and well-defined metrics. You will leverage AI-powered development tools to accelerate delivery while critically evaluating outputs for analytical rigor, architectural fit, and long-term maintainability. Working in a fast-paced, highly responsive environment, you will lead the translation of complex, multi-variable business requirements into scalable BI solutions through structured problem scoping, root cause analysis, and proactive stakeholder engagement.
This position offers long-term opportunity as the SFB Data Analytics & Technology team scales its analytics impact beyond ORBIT into new domains supporting Operations and SFB. You will gain broad exposure to business operations, finance, and strategy across the company, deepen your data engineering and BI architecture expertise, and work on solutions that directly influence how Blue Origin measures and runs the business. You will lead your own projects with autonomy and impact, collaborate effectively across the organization, and develop the technical depth and cross-functional influence that defines a strong BI engineering career.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Leading end-to-end development and enhancement of the ORBIT KPI visualization platform
- Driving rapid development of BI solutions for the SFB organization, from requirements through delivery
- Designing and maintaining semantic layers, dimensional models, and data marts in Databricks
- Implementing data quality checks, pipeline observability, and storage/compute optimization
- Developing and maintaining robust Python packages with CI/CD and data validation
- Writing and optimizing complex SQL for analytics and reporting use cases
- Designing KPI frameworks and performing root cause analysis and scenario modeling with business stakeholders
- Prototyping custom application visualizations using lightweight web components (e.g., GitLab Pages, Steamlit, other lightweight app framework)
- Leading requirements development and problem scoping across Operations and SFB stakeholder groups
- Leading multi-team projects including timeline management, dependency tracking, and post-mortems
- Setting analytical and technical standards and representing the team in cross-functional forums
- Building and maintaining comprehensive technical and analytical documentation
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent degree field
- 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or a related technical field (fewer with advanced degree)
- Expert-level SQL skills including CTEs, window functions, query optimization, and semantic layer design
- 4+ years experience with Databricks or equivalent cloud data platforms
- Experience architecting dimensional models, data marts, and parameterized BI assets
- Experience implementing data quality checks, pipeline observability, and CI/CD for data workflows
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-team projects and drive delivery across stakeholder groups
- 1+ years of experience leveraging LLMs and AI-powered tools in an analytics or development workflow
- 2+ years of experience with AWS
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to design KPI frameworks and translate complex business processes into measurable metrics
- Familiarity with React/TypeScript for building analytics views or lightweight front-end integrations
- Experience with REST or GraphQL API integration in a BI or data context
- Experience supporting operations, finance, and/or strategy use cases
- Experience conducting formal post-mortems and implementing process improvements
- Deep experience with AWS
Compensation Range for:
WA applicants is $130,706.00 - $182,987.70Other site ranges may differ
