Chemical Engineering | Mechanical Engineering internship: utility cost analysis
Job Description
Introduction
The Process Technology team ensures that critical process utilities support ASML’s manufacturing operations. These include cooling systems, ultra-pure water, bulk gases, and vacuum infrastructure. As ASML grows, understanding the true cost of these utilities becomes increasingly important. This internship gives you the chance to support long‑term decision‑making with clear insights into cost and performance. Your work will help shape how utilities are compared and improved across manufacturing sites.
Your assignment
ASML’s facilities use similar utilities, but the cost per unit can vary significantly. These variations come from system design, operating conditions, and local infrastructure. During this internship, you will analyze what drives these differences and define a realistic utility cost range for each unit. Your main responsibilities will be:
Build an overview of total cost of ownership per unit (covering supply, infrastructure, maintenance, and operational costs)
Analyze consumption levels and cost variation across different manufacturing sites.
Identify technical and operational factors that influence cost differences.
Compare facilities to highlight recurring patterns and underlying root causes.
Define an optimal and realistic cost range supported by your findings.
Propose practical improvement opportunities based on your analysis.
This is a master’s (thesis) internship for a minimum of 5 months. It requires an investment of 40 hours per week, out of which 3 days per week are onsite in Veldhoven. The start date is projected at the end of August 2026.

To be suitable for the internship, you:
Are a master’s student in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, process engineering or a related study program.
Feel comfortable working with technical data, and are able to translate technical information into meaningful cost insights.
Have an analytical and structured working style.
Are curious, proactive, and have a growth-mindset.
Are able to communicate in English at a professional level.
