Intern (d/f/m) in the field of Space Situational Awareness and Intelligence

Within the last years, space around Earth has become more and more crowded with active satellites by an increasing number of diverse operators as well as by space debris. In order to maintain safe and secure operations in space, we need a good understanding of the satellite and debris population, the intentions of potentially uncooperative operators and the space environment in general.
To improve this understanding, Airbus Defence and Space develops innovative space-based capabilities for the detection, classification and characterization of objects in space. Your job will be to support those activities.

Your tasks and responsibilities
- Design of satellite missions with Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and Space Intelligence context
- Analysis of satellite platforms, sub-systems and payloads
- Simulation, analysis and optimization of different mission scenarios and assessment of mission performance
- Design and Implementation or improvement of software tools used for the simulation and analysis of SSA systems and missions
- Supporting work for running projects within the domain of space safety and security
Desired skills and qualifications
- Enrolled full time Master student in space or aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, automation engineering, physics, mathematics, software engineering or related fields.
- Background in orbital mechanics, satellite systems and/or mission analysis
- Experience in programming (Python) and with dedicated mission analysis tools (e.g., STK, Orekit, GMAT)
- Strong communicative skills and positive attitude towards teamwork.
- Fluent German.
- Interest in Space Situational Awareness topics and space in general.
- Knowledge in optics and image processing and control technology will be an addition.
