Job Description
At Relativity Space, weâre building rockets to serve todayâs needs and tomorrowâs breakthroughs. Our Terran R vehicle will deliver customer payloads to orbit, meeting the growing demand for launch capacity. But thatâs just the start. Achieving commercial success with Terran R will unlock new opportunities to advance science, exploration, and innovation, pioneering progress that reaches beyond the known.
Joining Relativity means becoming part of something where autonomy, ownership, and impact exist at every level. Here, you're not just executing tasks; you're solving problems that havenât been solved before, helping develop a rocket, a factory, and a business from the ground up. Whether youâre in propulsion, manufacturing, software, avionics, or a corporate function, youâll collaborate across teams, shape decisions, and see your work come to life in record time. Relativity is a place where creativity and technical rigor go hand in hand, and your voice will help define the stories weâre writing together. Now is a unique moment in time where itâs early enough to leave your mark on the product, the process, and the culture, but far enough along that Terran R is tangible and picking up momentum. The most meaningful work of your career is waiting. Join us.
About the Team:
The EHS team carries a profound responsibility to keep people and the environments where we operate safe while we build the future. We're not here to slow things down; we're here to enable safe speed. At this stage in Relativityâs trajectory, you'll have the rare opportunity to shape how EHS is embedded in every process and decision, from the factory floor to the launch pad. We have a voice at every level, and we use it to build a culture where EHS isnât just about compliance, but rather a shared responsibility amongst all employees.
About the Role:
- Serve as the EHS lead embedded with engineering and operations teams.
- Identify hazards, perform risk assessments, and implement control measures for high-pressure and high-energy testing environments.
- Build out safety processes and programs for test stands based on on-site observations and identified gaps.
- Balance time approximately 50/50 between program development and on-site support, initially focusing on on-site presence to understand processes and issues.
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, and incident investigations, providing actionable recommendations.
- Develop, implement, and enforce safety procedures, protocols, and best practices for engine testing activities.
- Delivering safety training specific to pressure systems, engine testing, and related hazards.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to ensure safe project execution.
About You:
- Bachelorâs degree in Safety, Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years of progressive EHS experience, including pressure systems, engine testing, or high-energy mechanical systems.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, ASME, and related safety standards.
- Proven experience conducting risk assessments, hazard analysis, and incident investigations in complex technical environments.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams.
- Hands-on, proactive problem solver who thrives in the field and collaborates effectively across teams.
- Relevant certifications preferred: CSP, CHST, or OSHA 30/General Industry.
Nice to haves but not required:
- Experience with high-pressure systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, or gas-based) in industrial or test environments.
- Knowledge of engine testing protocols and mechanical safety hazards.
- Ability to develop and deliver specialized safety training for technical teams.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and time-management skills.
