We are looking for a highly motivated Scientist, Enzyme Development to join our team!
As a Scientist, Enzyme Development, you will focus on manufacturing scale up and process developments related to preparation, formulation, analysis, and quality control of novel DNA amplification reagents. You will be an integral part of our team, contributing to both R&D innovations and product launch efforts.
This is a full-time, on-site position at our Carlsbad, CA office.
How You’ll Contribute
- Perform and optimize protein expression in bacterial host strains using fermentation equipment
- Perform, optimize, and scale up protein purification using affinity and ion exchange chromatography
- Help with installation and validation activities of new equipment and processes
- Assist in documentation of new laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
- Troubleshoot experiments as needed
- Conduct process optimizations to ensure final formulations conform to internal specifications with respect to downstream performance, stability, and reproducibility
- Collect and analyze data; communicate findings to cross-functional scientific teams
- Execute, analyze and document experiments to characterize the protein expression levels and purification strategies
- Contribute to the development of novel enzyme formulations
- Work closely with project leads of R&D teams and solicit feedback to improve product performance
- Work in a multidisciplinary environment comprising biochemists, molecular biologists, and engineers to drive toward company goals
- Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and instrumentation and maintain laboratory equipment and inventory
- Adhere to all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including OSHA and ISO standards, to maintain a safe and compliant working environment
- Other job duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- BS in biological sciences or related field
- 8+ years of experience working in biotech industry or manufacturing environment
- Hands-on experience in microbial fermentation (10L -300L scale)
- Hands on experience in protein purification (FPLC,HPLC)
- Expertise in Tangential Flow and Depth Filtration
- Ability to work independently with flexibility to adjust work schedule as needed to maintain efficiency of cell culturing and protein handling, including occasional early morning/nights and weekends
- Ability to perform physical tasks, such as moving easily in a lab environment, frequent pipetting, intermittent standing, bending, crouching, pushing/pulling, lifting/moving/carrying heavy objects (up to 50 lbs)
At Ultima Genomics, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays between $95,000 and $115,000, if performed in California, and your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
