The Mechanical Engineer supports Standard Nuclear’s Idaho facility by developing and implementing equipment, facility, and process improvement projects that improve reliability, safety, throughput, and operational performance. This role provides hands-on engineering support for manufacturing, maintenance, and facility operations, including troubleshooting higher-level mechanical issues and supporting equipment upgrades, modifications, and repairs.
This is a practical, site-based engineering role for someone who is comfortable working across both technical design and field execution. The Mechanical Engineer will work closely with operations, maintenance, facilities, and engineering teams to identify problems, develop solutions, and help implement improvements in a manufacturing environment. The role requires strong mechanical judgment, problem-solving ability, and a willingness to support the broader site team when operational needs arise.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Mechanical Engineering & Improvement Projects
- Develop and implement mechanical improvement projects for equipment, utilities, facility systems, and manufacturing processes
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintainability, safety, and production efficiency
- Support design, review, and execution of mechanical modifications, upgrades, and repairs
- Develop scopes of work, technical requirements, layouts, sketches, and supporting documentation for site projects
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to execute improvement projects safely and effectively
Equipment Troubleshooting & Technical Support
- Provide technical support for complex mechanical equipment issues and higher-level breakdowns
- Assist maintenance and operations teams in diagnosing root causes of recurring equipment failures
- Recommend corrective actions and long-term reliability improvements
- Support startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting of new or modified equipment
- Work hands-on with site personnel when needed to restore equipment or support urgent operational needs
Facilities & Operations Support
- Support mechanical aspects of facility systems, utilities, and production support equipment
- Assist facilities and maintenance teams with technical problem-solving, work planning, and execution support
- Provide engineering input for repairs, replacements, and equipment improvements
- Help ensure systems and equipment are operated and maintained in accordance with site requirements
Documentation & Technical Review
- Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, equipment records, calculations, work instructions, and project files
- Review vendor documentation, equipment manuals, drawings, and technical specifications
- Support development and improvement of maintenance procedures, inspection plans, and equipment documentation
- Ensure project and equipment records are accurate, organized, and accessible
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure mechanical work is performed in accordance with company safety, quality, and operational procedures
- Support hazard reviews, job planning, and risk assessments for mechanical work
- Follow site requirements for lockout/tagout, PPE, work control, and equipment safety
- Support corrective actions, investigations, and continuous improvement efforts as needed
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Instrumentation, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field
- 2–5 years of experience working with industrial instrumentation and control systems
- Experience with sensors, transmitters, control loops, and industrial automation systems
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings
- Experience with calibration of instruments and use of calibration equipment
- Familiarity with PLCs, HMIs, and industrial control systems is a plus
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in manufacturing, laboratory, or industrial environments
- Experience in nuclear, chemical, energy, or other regulated industries is a plus

This role is based on-site at Standard Nuclear’s Idaho facility and involves work in office, manufacturing, facility, and industrial environments.
