Supply Chain Management | Industrial Engineering internship: inventory density optimization

Introduction

The Global Warehousing Services team is part of ASML’s Planning & Delivery organization. The team ensures that a global network of around 65 warehouses supports factory operations and customer demand efficiently. These warehouses store parts, tools, and kits for production, upgrades, and installations. This internship focuses on improving how inventory density is measured and applied across different warehouse types. You will help create a practical and standardized way to link volume and floor space for better decision-making.
 

Your assignment

In this internship, you will improve data-driven insights on warehouse space usage and contribute to defining practical standards. You will balance analytical thinking with real-world applicability to ensure the outcome is usable across operations. Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Identify bottlenecks in warehouse space usage and accessibility

  • Research industry benchmarks and translate them into practical guidelines

  • Develop a simple calculation model linking cubic meters to square meters

  • Differentiate storage types such as racking, shelving, and bulk storage

  • Run simulations to evaluate potential space improvements

  • Translate analytical outcomes into clear, applicable recommendations

  • Apply logistics and supply chain best practices in a global context


This is a bachelor’s or master’s (thesis) internship for a minimum 5 months, 3 to 5 days per week (3 days on-site). The start date of this internship is as of August/September 2026.


Your profile

To be suitable for the internship, you:

  • Are enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Engineering, Econometrics, or related

  • Have experience with ERP systems, Excel, and data-driven tools

  • Have an affinity with logistics and supply chain management

  • Show a proactive and independent working style, with a willingness to learn

  • Communicate clearly in English, both verbally and in writing


 

Other requirements you need to meet:

  • You are enrolled at an educational institute for the entire duration of the internship;

  • Attach your cover letter with a clear motivation why you are interested in this internship assignment in particular;

  • You need to be located in the Netherlands to perform your internship. In case you are currently living/studying outside of the Netherlands, your CV/motivation letter needs to include the willingness to relocate.

  • If you are a non-EU citizen, studying in the Netherlands, your university is willing to sign the documents relevant for doing an internship (i.e., Nuffic agreement).
