Data Engineering | Computer Science Internship: Automation & Scalable Analytics Infrastructure
Job Description
Introduction
You will join the Advanced Analytics/Data Engineering team within Customer Support, working on our internal data and analytics platform.
The team operates at the intersection of Data Engineering, Infrastructure & platform development, Applied analytics and Machine Learning. Our mission is to enable reliable, scalable, and reusable data solutions that directly support business-critical analytics use cases.
As our data platform grows, we face several key challenges:
- Ensuring consistent and high-quality documentation across rapidly evolving codebases
- Making infrastructure reusable and scalable across multiple analytics teams
- Improving testability and reliability of complex data pipelines
- Supporting fast delivery while maintaining long-term maintainability
- Enabling robust development practices (CI/CD, Infrastructure-as-Code, testing)
This internship contributes directly to solving these challenges in a real production environment.
Your Assignment
How can we make our data platform self-documenting, scalable, testable, and resilient, while keeping development efficient for engineers? As a Data Engineering Intern, you will design and build tooling and solutions that improve the quality, maintainability, and reliability of our data platform.
You will work hands-on with engineers and stakeholders to deliver solutions that are actively used in production by business stakeholders.
Your responsibilities may include:
1. Automated Documentation System
- Design and implement a system that automatically generates and distributes documentation from code and infrastructure
- Ensure documentation is clear, structured, and accessible for both technical and non-technical users
2. Infrastructure Standardization & Reusability
- Refactor and modularize infrastructure code to make it reusable across projects
- Introduce standards that improve consistency and maintainability
3. Testing Frameworks for Data Infrastructure
- Develop unit and integration testing frameworks for data pipelines and infrastructure
- Improve system robustness and reliability
4. Simulation & Resilience Testing
- Build tools to simulate messy or imperfect data scenarios
- Enable testing of edge cases and pipeline resilience
5. Infrastructure-as-Code Tooling
- Design tooling to support automated provisioning and configuration of infrastructure
- Improve deployment processes and reproducibility
6. Supporting Real Business Use Cases
- Collaborate with stakeholders on short-cycle engineering tasks
- Deliver practical solutions under real business constraints
Your Profile
To be a good match for this internship, you:
- Are a bachelor or master student in Data Engineering, Data Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
- Have experience with programming (preferably Python).
- Have a basic understanding of Data engineering concepts and Backend systems.
- Have an interest in CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks and infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform).
- Can think outside of the box and enjoy solving real engineering challenges.
- Are proactive and have the ability to work independently and take ownership.
- Are comfortable working in a collaborative, stakeholder-driven environment.
Other requirements you need to meet:
