Job Overview
We are seeking a talented and motivated Naval Architect Intern to support the design, analysis, and development of autonomous surface vessels. This role will provide hands-on experience in traditional naval architecture and advanced autonomous technologies, driving impact in defense innovation.
This internship is ideal for students pursuing Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, and Ocean Engineering, or a related field, and eager to make an impact in the defense tech industry. All interns will be supported and mentored by experienced Naval Architects.
Responsibilities
Assist in the design, development, and analysis of vessel hull forms, structures, and systems for ASVs
Conduct hydrodynamic and stability calculations, including resistance, propulsion, and maneuvering simulations
Collaborate with senior engineers to perform CAD modeling, structural design, and weight management for vessel optimization
Support the integration of autonomous navigation and control systems into vessel designs
Assist in conducting model tests and validation in collaboration with engineers and programmers
Participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions for new and existing vessel concepts
Research and stay updated on new developments in naval architecture, autonomous technology, and defense requirements
Support documentation, technical writing, and preparation of reports for internal use and client presentations
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related field
Basic knowledge of naval architecture principles, including ship design, stability, and hydrodynamics
Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., Rhino, AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and simulation tools (e.g., Orca3D, ANSYS, or equivalent)
This role requires full-time in office presence (40 hours/week) based at our headquarters in Austin, TX or Franklin, LA, from August through December
Physical Demands
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
Occasional standing and walking within the office
Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment
Visual acuity to read screens, documents, and reports
Occasional reaching, bending, or stooping to access file drawers, cabinets, or office supplies
Lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., office supplies, packages)
