Summary
OpenGov is looking for a Senior Communications Specialist to own how we communicate with employees and how we show up across our owned channels.
This role is responsible for making sure what we say—internally and externally—is clear, consistent, and easy to understand. You will take company priorities, product updates, and customer impact and turn them into messaging that employees understand and that shows up across channels like Slack, LinkedIn, and our careers site.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can operate independently, make decisions without a playbook, and consistently deliver high-quality communication across multiple channels.
Responsibilities
Internal Communications
Write and manage company-wide communications (Slack, email, announcements, leadership updates)
Establish and run a clear, consistent cadence for internal communication
Partner with leadership team to communicate priorities and key updates
Ensure employees understand what’s happening across the company and why it matters
Employer Brand Messaging
Ensure candidates understand what OpenGov does, why it matters, and what it’s like to work here
Own and improve the careers site and candidate-facing messaging
Develop employee stories that reflect real work, real impact, and real teams
Partner with the People team to support priority hiring needs with clear messaging
Social & Company Presence
Run OpenGov’s corporate social channels
Build a consistent, high-quality presence that reflects company priorities, culture, and momentum
Support leaders and employees in showing up on social in a way that is aligned and authentic
Turn company moments (product launches, customer wins, events) into clear, simple posts
Create and Ship Content Consistently
Produce content across internal and external channels on a weekly cadence
Turn complex ideas into clear, concise messaging
Use AI tools to draft, iterate, and scale content efficiently
Respond quickly to company and market moments when needed
Measure and Improve
Track engagement across internal communications, social channels, and employer brand efforts
Use data and feedback to improve clarity, consistency, and reach over time
Requirements
5+ years of experience in corporate communications, internal communications, employer brand, or social/content roles
Strong writing skills with the ability to simplify complex topics
Experience owning internal communication channels (Slack, email, company updates)
Experience owning or contributing to social media presence, especially LinkedIn
Proven ability to operate independently and make decisions in ambiguous environments
Experience working cross-functionally with Marketing, People, and leadership teams
Comfortable using AI tools to increase speed and scale of content creation
Interest in mission-driven work and improving outcomes for communities through technology
Compensation:
San Francisco, CA: $115,000 - $130,000
On target ranges above include base plus a portion of variable compensation that is earned based on company and individual performance.
The final compensation will be determined by a number of factors such as qualifications, expertise, and the candidate’s geographical location.
