Senior Software Engineer, Fleet & Planning

Compensation
$160,000–$190,000/year

Job Description

Who is Flock?

Every community deserves to be safe, it’s a fundamental right. Our mission is simple - to build technology that reduces crime and protects privacy. Flock partners with cities, businesses, schools, and neighborhoods to help protect where people live, work, and play. Last year, Flock technology supported over 1 million criminal investigations. We've also helped solve approximately 20% of reported crimes in areas where we're deployed, and have played a role in locating more than 10,000 missing people.

We are a high-performance team united by urgency, ownership, and a shared commitment to meaningful impact. The work is fast-paced and the expectations are high. We push beyond perceived limits, support each other, and hold ourselves accountable to delivering results that matter.

With over $1B in funding and an $8.3B valuation, we are scaling with intention and investing in the people who will help us build what others said could not be done. At Flock, you will find the opportunity to grow quickly, take on real responsibility, and contribute to something bigger than yourself.

The Opportunity

As the number of cities and private communities adopting Flock Safety’s ecosystem grows, deploying our hardware efficiently is our biggest engineering challenge. We are building a comprehensive fleet and planning management platform that bridges the gap between urban planning, legal compliance, and hardware deployment. You will design the core software engines that determine optimal camera locations, automate complex permitting workflows across thousands of jurisdictions, and build a unified dashboard for our customers and deployment teams.

As a Senior Software Engineer, your code will directly dictate how fast a community can go live with life-saving safety technology by tackling:

  • Complex Routing & Siting: Build the geospatial tools and algorithms that map out the most effective and safe locations for our cameras, drones, and safety devices.

  • Automated Permitting: Streamline the red tape. You will build software integrations that automate permitting submissions, tracking, and approvals with varied utility companies and municipalities.

  • Deployment & Customer Dashboards: Design a "single pane of glass" interface that gives our customers total visibility into their device installation progress and fleet health.

You will work at the intersection of mapping, civic tech, and user experience, seeing the physical impact of your software deployed in the real world!

The Skillset

  • Love writing code and continue learning to do it better

  • Motivated by taking an unknown problem, sinking your teeth in, and coming up with a plan of attack

  • Desire to grow your role and directly influence the growth of a young company

  • Excited about working on a fast-paced, constantly evolving product

  • Versed with Typescript (Node) as web services in addition to general API design

  • Confident in a modern web framework (React, Vue, Angular, etc). We leverage React with Typescript

  • Familiar with various data stores and know how to interact with them. Confident in SQL

  • Deep understanding of Docker and how to run locally and deploy remotely via Helm to Kubernetes

  • Strong working knowledge of AWS and have used some managed services like S3, API Gateway, SQS, etc.

  • Familiar with AI-assisted engineering practices, including the strategic, concurrent use of multiple AI agents (Claude, Copilot, Codex) to optimize development velocity.

Feeling uneasy that you haven’t ticked every box? That’s okay; we’ve felt that way too. Studies have shown women and minorities are less likely to apply unless they meet all qualifications. We encourage you to break the status quo and apply to roles that would make you excited to come to work every day.
