Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As an Engineering Operations lead on the Core Avionics Team, you will work to improve the engineering operating cadence, vertical integrations and hardware deliveries for the core avionics teams, with a primary focus on electronics design and manufacturing operations. This role directly impacts technology maturation for space-rated avionics systems and requires deep understanding of electronics development lifecycles. You will perform program management functions across the entire product life cycle from research and electronics design development through final flight hardware manufacturing and production.

You will manage budgets, schedules, WBS, and program plans to ensure complex electronics hardware is delivered to support various mission-critical tasks. You will communicate status, risks & opportunities, variances, and recovery plans to engineering and program management teams. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

We are looking for someone to apply their electronics design and manufacturing expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the IPT's operating cadence to report key performance metrics (technical, cost, schedule, and risk) with specific focus on electronics design milestones and manufacturing readiness levels
  • Instrument and monitor the health of electronics design and manufacturing processes within IPT engineering workflows and identify areas for improvement to reduce cycle time
  • Work closely with Lunar Management Operations to integrate the Core Avionics Group into the overall program operations cadence, ensuring electronics manufacturing dependencies are properly sequenced
  • Generate boards/tools necessary for reporting IPT operations health to Lunar Product Engineering, including electronics design review status, manufacturing yield data, and test results for Weekly Business Reviews (WBR) and Lunar Program Weekly Review and Program Management Reviews (PMRs)
  • Support IPT representation in agile product planning sessions with emphasis on electronics design sprints and manufacturing capacity planning
  • Coach teams in self-organization and electronics design-to-manufacturing handoff processes
  • Lead Tiger Teams when necessary, particularly for electronics design challenges and manufacturing issues
  • Define, monitor, and track all receivables and deliverable products from the IPT, with detailed tracking of electronics hardware configurations and manufacturing specifications
  • Work closely with internal and external electronics manufacturing and test facilities to coordinate on-time delivery of flight-ready avionics hardware
  • Coordinate electronics design reviews, manufacturing readiness assessments, and supplier qualification activities
  • Be a mentor, and offer leadership and development opportunities, putting those around you first
  • Embody, promote, and coach the Blue Origin leadership principles

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline
  • 7+ years of experience in electronics design and manufacturing operations in highly technical and multidisciplinary engineering development projects, including managing requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, and cost
  • Proven experience managing electronics hardware development from concept through production, including PCB design, component selection, and manufacturing process optimization
  • Direct experience with electronics manufacturing processes including SMT assembly, through-hole assembly, conformal coating, potting, and final test procedures
  • Experience with electronics design tools (Altium, Cadence, or similar) and manufacturing execution systems (MES)
  • Experienced at collecting and synthesizing quantitative and qualitative information from multiple partners and translating data into electronics manufacturing requirements, scoping and planning documents, and ultimately build ready-for-use and fit-for-purpose tools and processes
