ABOUT THE JOB
We are looking for a Legal Counsel, Investigations to serve as a core member of our rapidly growing Legal Team in Washington, DC.
This is a generalist investigations and ethics role. You will lead and support internal investigations, audits/assessments, ethics responsibilities, data governance, and enforcement matters spanning the full range of legal disciplines that arise inside a global defense prime—white-collar and financial matters, government contracting and procurement integrity, anti-corruption and FCPA, trade and export controls, employment and workplace conduct, intellectual property and trade secrets, ethics and Code of Conduct violations, data governance, privacy, and cybersecurity. You will not merely react to problems; you will help design the systems that surface them early, resolve them decisively, and make the company stronger for it.
The role demands creativity, ownership, and sound judgment. You will work across nearly every part of Anduril's business to conduct sensitive investigations, assess exposure, advise on disclosure obligations, and build the compliance controls that prevent issues from recurring. This requires a strong command of U.S. federal and state law, as well as understanding of legal regimes in the jurisdictions where Anduril operates—including the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, and other international locations. Deep experience across every one of these areas is not expected; the willingness to learn fast and operate outside your comfort zone is non-negotiable.
Because Anduril operates at the intersection of the commercial and defense worlds, this role requires understanding our products, customers, and operations well enough to inform immediate decisions and shape long-term strategy across our multinational footprint. Our team is passionate about the law and policy of defense technology, and you should bring an independent interest in the hard problems in this field. Anduril offers a diverse, collaborative culture with real ownership and significant room to grow.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Lead and conduct internal investigations and ethics assessments across the full spectrum of corporate legal matters—including white-collar and financial misconduct, procurement and government contracting integrity, anti-corruption/FCPA, trade and export controls, employment and workplace conduct, intellectual property and trade secrets, privacy, cybersecurity, and data protection.
- Manage the full investigative lifecycle: intake and triage, evidence preservation and collection, witness interviews, fact-finding, root-cause analysis, findings, and remediation.
- Assess legal exposure and advise business leaders and management on risk, mitigation strategy, and the need for voluntary disclosure to government authorities and regulators.
- Design, implement, and continuously improve Anduril's compliance programs, policies, and internal controls in partnership with business organizations and the broader Legal team.
- Develop and maintain policies, procedures, playbooks, and templates aligned with Anduril's contractual and regulatory obligations.
- Direct and coordinate cross-functional investigation and audit teams—including business, HR, finance, security, and outside counsel—while controlling cost and minimizing disruption to operations.
- Engage credibly with government enforcement agencies, regulators, external and government auditors (e.g., DCMA/DCAA), inspectors general, and congressional committees, as needed. Building and maintaining high-trust relationships with these stakeholders is essential to Anduril's continued success.
- Support audits and assessments across regulatory domains, and prepare the company to respond to government inquiries and enforcement actions, including associated civil and criminal matters.
- Advise on the legal dimensions of data governance, data protection, cybersecurity and information protection where they intersect with investigations and compliance—including privacy controls, breach response, government contract security requirements (e.g., CMMC, NIST 800-171, DFARS 7012), and related incident handling.
- Take end-to-end ownership of high-impact projects that materially affect the company's business.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (DC or CA Bar strongly preferred).
- 6+ years of legal experience with a substantial focus on internal investigations, audits, government/regulatory enforcement, or white-collar matters—at a law firm, government agency, or in-house at a technology or defense company.
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting complex, sensitive investigations from intake through resolution, including evidence handling, interviews, and privilege management.
- Working knowledge of the regulatory landscape applicable to U.S. government contractors, which may include one or more of: the FAR/DFARS, anti-corruption/FCPA, export controls (ITAR/EAR), procurement integrity, employment law, or data and cybersecurity requirements.
- The judgment and initiative to own multiple matters end-to-end and to handle novel legal issues as they arise in a fast-moving defense and technology environment.
- A quick learner willing to contribute across the broader legal function—including areas that may be new to you, from IP and litigation to compliance, securities, and employment law—depending on the needs of the day.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Must be (1) admitted to practice and a member in good standing of the bar of any state.
- Willing to travel up to 30% of the time.
- Must be a U.S. Person due to the requirement to access U.S. export-controlled information and facilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A combination of law firm, government and in-house experience, or particularly in-house experience as a primary investigations lead, audit officer, or compliance owner or leader at a defense contractor.
- Strong experience with government audits, assessments, and investigations (e.g., DCMA/DCAA reviews, DIBCAC assessments, inspector general investigations, DOJ, SEC inquiries, DDTC or BIS).
- Experience engaging with enforcement authorities and regulators (e.g., DOJ, SEC, DoD, state attorneys general).
- Experience across multiple compliance domains—anti-corruption, export controls, government contracts, ethics, employment, or data protection.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CFE, CIPP, CCEP) or a willingness to obtain them.
- Pre-law-school technical background or experience working alongside engineers and technical practitioners.
- Strong interest in defense technology and autonomous systems.
