Job Description
We're looking for our first Founding Forward Deployment Engineer.
This is not a traditional implementation or solutions engineering role.
You'll be writing production code every week, shipping product features, building integrations, solving customer problems, and working side-by-side with our customers to ensure they are wildly successful on Wayline.
One day you might build a new integration with a property management system. The next day you might create an AI-powered browser agent that automates a customer's workflow. The next, you might identify a product gap during an onboarding call and ship the feature before the customer notices it was missing.
You'll sit at the intersection of Engineering, Product, and Customer Success, acting as the technical owner for new customer onboardings while directly influencing the roadmap.
If you enjoy building products and talking to customers in equal measure, you'll thrive here.
What You'll Do
- Lead technical onboarding for new enterprise customers
- Build integrations with customer systems and third-party APIs
- Develop browser agents and AI-powered automations
- Configure workflows and automation using the Wayline platform
- Diagnose and resolve complex customer data issues
- Turn customer feedback into shipped product features
- Partner closely with Product and Engineering to improve the platform
- Become the trusted technical advisor for our customers
- Help define what "Forward Deployment Engineering" looks like at Wayline
What We're Looking For
You probably have:
- 3+ years building production software
- Strong TypeScript, React, and Node.js experience
- Experience designing APIs and integrating external systems
- Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding communication skills with both technical and non-technical people
- Comfort working in ambiguity and moving quickly
Bonus points if you have:
- Startup or founder experience
- Experience shipping AI products
- Experience with browser automation (Playwright, Puppeteer, etc.)
- Experience working directly with enterprise customers
- Built internal tools or workflow automation
- Property management or real estate technology experience
You Might Be a Great Fit If...
You enjoy hearing:
"Can we make the product do this?"
instead of
"Can you file a ticket for Engineering?"
You like talking to customers because every conversation is an opportunity to build something new.
You'd rather ship a feature this afternoon than spend two weeks writing documentation explaining why it doesn't exist.
You naturally bounce between product thinking, engineering, customer conversations, and debugging production systems.
You don't mind wearing many hats—in fact, that's what excites you.
Why Join Us
As our first Forward Deployment Engineers, you'll have enormous influence over both our product and our company.
You'll help define how customers experience Wayline, shape our product roadmap through firsthand customer interactions, and establish the playbook for future forward deployment engineers.
You'll work directly with the founders, ship meaningful code every week, and see the immediate impact of your work in production.
What Success Looks Like
Within your first six months:
- Customers specifically ask to work with you again.
- You have shipped multiple product features inspired directly by customer conversations.
- You've built new integrations and automations that every customer benefits from.
- You've become one of the people customers trust most at Wayline.
- You've helped define an entirely new function at the company.
