Job Description

About Us

Temporal is an open source programming model that can simplify code, make applications more reliable, and help developers focus on the important things like delivering features faster. We are on a mission to be the reliable foundation of every developer’s toolbox, and are building the team that will make that happen.

Our values guide us —they are present in how we show up, make decisions, and work together to make an impact. We’re curious, driven, collaborative, genuine and humble.

Temporal is growing and we are looking for those who share our values, challenge 'standard' thinking, and want to influence our future. If you have a passion for improving the developer experience, building world-class open-source software and communities, and want to be a part of our amazing team, we'd love to hear from you!

Summary

Durable execution changes how you build software. It makes applications reliable by default, but it's a genuinely new way to think, so most developers meet it with a lot of questions. Developer Education exists to answer them. We take a developer from their first "what is this?" to running production-grade Temporal applications, along a guided journey that gets them hands-on from the first step.

We treat education as a product, not a side project. It's a serious, resourced effort to build something that can genuinely move the business. You'll help build the platform behind it and shape where it goes, not just create content to fill it. You'll work within real technology constraints, but with plenty of room to get creative.

We're building that journey now: exercise-first courses, video, and AI-assisted learning that meets developers the way they actually work. AI runs through both how we teach and what we teach. Durable execution is fast becoming the backbone for reliable AI agents, and we're building the content that shows developers how.

As a Senior Developer Advocate on the team, you're a strong engineer who teaches through working code and through story. Great teaching carries someone from confusion to understanding, and you turn hard distributed-systems ideas into experiences that click. You'll also partner across Developer Relations, Product, Engineering, Solutions Architecture, Sales, and Marketing to help developers succeed with Temporal.

What You'll Do

  • Help shape the education platform and the direction of the learning experience, not just the content that fills it
  • Design and build exercise-first courses, tutorials, and labs where a working, hands-on example is the core, with video, guides, and learning paths built around it
  • Produce video education content, including long-form walkthroughs and short-form "aha moment" clips
  • Build hands-on AI and agent content, including durable AI agent examples that show how Temporal underpins reliable AI systems
  • Design learning experiences that reflect modern developer workflows, including AI-assisted, hybrid, and interactive formats
  • Keep educational materials aligned with current product capabilities and recommended architectural patterns
  • Build and maintain reference implementations, labs, and best-practices examples for common developer and enterprise scenarios, in one or more Temporal SDK languages
  • Occasionally represent education in person: staffing a booth at a conference or event, and now and then standing up to teach a group directly, through a workshop, a training session, or a talk.
  • Partner with enterprise-facing teams (Solutions Architecture, Sales, Field Marketing, Developer Success) to turn their needs into reusable educational assets such as workshops, deep dives, and enablement material that scale beyond a single customer rather than one-off engagements
  • Help run trainer certification and developer certification programs by supporting competency definitions, assessment creation, and iteration based on feedback
  • Collect and share developer feedback from trainings, events, and community channels, and share actionable insights with Product and Engineering to improve education strategy and product direction

What You'll Bring

  • Strong software engineering background and the ability to build production-quality, real working examples in at least one of Temporal's primary SDK languages (Go, Java, TypeScript, Python, or .NET)
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems fundamentals, including state management, fault tolerance, concurrency, and event-driven architectures
  • Demonstrated experience creating high-quality technical education content (tutorials, workshops, courses, docs, or similar) for developer audiences
  • Clear, pragmatic communication, written and verbal, for technical and mixed audiences, with a storyteller's instinct: you teach through narrative, not a list of features
  • Ability to operate as a senior individual contributor: take ownership of projects, drive them forward with minimal direction, and iterate quickly based on feedback
  • A product and ownership instinct: you think about the whole learner experience and the platform, not just the asset in front of you
  • Comfort balancing execution with program-level thinking, including cross-functional collaboration across Product, Engineering, Developer Success, Marketing, and Solutions Architecture
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for conferences, events, customer trainings, and team offsites

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Temporal or another workflow orchestration system
  • Background in developer education, developer relations, or technical enablement
  • Open source contributions, especially in developer tooling, distributed systems, or adjacent ecosystems
  • Experience building LLM-powered applications or AI agents, and a feel for the reliability problems they hit at scale (state, failure, long-running orchestration).
  • Experience with a learning management system (LMS) or building an education platform
  • Experience working in a remote-first, globally distributed company

Compensation

  •  The estimated pay range for this role is $150,000- $180,000.
  • Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Temporal's equity plan.
