Job Description

About the Team

OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity. The Strategy & Operations team is responsible for driving cross-company readiness and response for critical moments and partners across the organization to manage both org and company-critical programs. Candidates should have a high level of maturity, strong executive presence, and strong judgment in complex high-profile situations.

About the Role

We are seeking a senior operator to lead OpenAI’s ESG reporting program. This role will be responsible for coordinating the people, processes, timelines, governance, and deliverables required to produce high-quality reporting on OpenAI’s progress toward its mission and related ESG commitments.

This role will serve as the operational DRI for bringing together inputs from teams across the company, turning them into a clear project plan, driving accountability across stakeholders, and ensuring reporting work moves forward on time and with appropriate review.

The Head of ESG Reporting & Operations will partner closely with Legal, Finance, Global Affairs, Communications, People, Product, Safety, Workplace/EHS and other teams to identify reportable initiatives, manage timelines, coordinate internal and external review, track dependencies, and create the operating rhythm needed to deliver polished, accurate, and credible reporting across ESG and AI-specific topics.

In this role, you will:

  • Own the end-to-end project management of OpenAI’s ESG and mission-related reporting efforts, including timelines, work plans, stakeholder coordination, review cycles, and final delivery.

  • Build and run the operating cadence for the reporting process, including working groups, executive check-ins, steering committee updates, decision forums, and escalation paths.

  • Partner with subject-matter experts across the company to gather inputs, clarify ownership, track milestones, and resolve dependencies.

  • Coordinate closely other functional leaders to ensure relevant KPIs, initiatives, and progress updates are accurately reflected in reporting.

  • Create repeatable processes for data collection, metric tracking, evidence gathering, internal validation, and report review.

  • Develop project plans, status updates, executive briefings, board materials, and internal narratives that make progress, risks, and decisions clear.

  • Partner with Legal, Finance, Risk, and Compliance on disclosure readiness, review processes, reporting frameworks, controls, and documentation.

  • Manage complex cross-functional workstreams across environmental impact, social responsibility, governance, workforce programs, responsible sourcing, and other reportable areas.

  • Translate broad reporting obligations and stakeholder inputs into clear deliverables, deadlines, ownership, and decision points.

  • Serve as the connective tissue across teams, ensuring reporting work is coordinated, visible, and accountable.

You might thrive in this role if you have:

  • Experience leading or significantly scaling ESG, sustainability, corporate responsibility, risk, compliance, or reporting and governance programs.

  • Strong program management and operational execution skills, with a track record of driving high-stakes work across multiple senior stakeholders.

  • Practical fluency with ESG frameworks and standards, disclosure processes, evidence collection, and internal controls. We value candidates who can connect traditional ESG reporting practices with AI-specific considerations.

  • Direct experience managing reporting processes end-to-end, including disclosure timelines, evidence collection, review cycles, and stakeholder sign-off.

  • Ability to work effectively with executive stakeholders and translate ambiguous requirements into practical plans and crisp decision points.

  • Strong analytical skills, including comfort working with ESG metrics, operational data, dashboards, and reporting processes.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to create clear materials for executives, employees, customers, regulators, and external stakeholders.

  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and bringing structure, urgency, and accountability to emerging areas of work.

  • High judgment, strong ownership, and the ability to influence without direct authority.
