Job Description
About Elayne
$3 trillion in assets pass between families every year. In this $250B industry, the process behind it is still manual: faxes, phone trees, spreadsheets, and grief. It can take families hundreds of hours, often years, to get through.
Elayne is the system that automates all of it. We're a YCombinator and Accel backed company building the AI platform for estate settlement, and families are using it to get through one of the hardest moments of their lives. We have a real product in people's hands, a brand and design language we care about, and a long path of interesting, challenging problems ahead.
About The Role
We're looking for a Lead Product Designer to join our design team and own major parts of the product end to end.
This is a seat for someone with the craft, taste, perspective, and judgment of a design leader as well as the instincts of a great teammate. You'll set direction for the surfaces you own rather than wait for a spec, and you'll raise the bar for everyone around you. You influence what to build, design it, and see it shipped.
Why this role is different
Estate settlement is emotionally charged, procedurally messy, and genuinely novel to design for. Our users are grieving. Our data is legal, financial, and institutional, scattered across dozens of systems that were never built to talk to each other.
You'll invent product patterns and carve a path forward. And you’ll figure out when AI should lead, when it should stay invisible, and how to create consumer trust around legal and financial concepts. If you've been craving a design problem with real depth and room to pursue original ideas instead of building another SaaS tool, this is it.
What you'll own
- New product surfaces, end to end: from problem-framing through interaction, UI, and shipped polish. You'll sharpen our core interfaces and design what's next.
- The hardest new problems: life planning tooling that is net new in the world, agentic asset and inventory processing, and document insights. Making powerful, AI-driven systems feel trustworthy to a grieving family is as much a design problem as an engineering one.
- Craft and consistency at scale: you'll push the bar on quality and help our design system and patterns keep up as the product and team grow.
What we're looking for
- 5+ years designing and shipping products end to end, with a portfolio that shows range across UX and UI
- The craft and judgment of someone who could lead design… and the humility to be a great teammate
- Fluency in Figma and the ability to move from rough concept to build-ready fast
- A track record of owning ambiguous problems, not executing handed-down specs
- Strong instincts for making complex, data-dense workflows feel simple
- A real point of view on designing with AI and knowing how to leverage AI
- Comfort in high-trust or regulated categories (fintech, legaltech, healthtech, insurance, estate/family services) is a bonus
Logistics
Full-time, in person with the team in New York City (3-4 days/week). Compensation: $150-220 plus equity, health insurance, a 401(k), and [additional benefits].
Interview Process
- Intro call: motivation, experience, mutual fit
- Portfolio deep dive + product walkthrough: your work, and how you think about ours
- Collaborative design session: a real Elayne problem, focused on product thinking
- Final conversation with the CEO

About Elayne
Elayne an AI-powered estate settlement platform that helps families settle an estate with clarity and speed using AI plus expert review. We turn scattered accounts, paperwork, and deadlines into a structured workflow: asset discovery, document intake, next steps, and status tracking. Elayne generates a verified step-by-step action plan based on institution and jurisdiction requirements. Families track progress in one place, share a single source of truth with executors and advisors, and move cases forward with fewer calls, forms, and surprises.
