Job Description
About Base
Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly analytical and hands-on Manufacturing Technician to elevate our factory operations. Unlike standard assembly roles, you are the first responder to complex process bottlenecks and quality drops. You will diagnose assembly deviations, perform intricate core repairs on the product, and analyze data to identify exactly where and why the line is slowing down.
You are the true owner of the process flow. You ensure that non-conforming materials are contained, root causes are identified and eliminated, and continuous improvements are actively implemented on the line so the "Base Pace" is maintained.
What You’ll Do
Core Repair & Rework: Perform complex core repairs, teardowns, and intricate rework on non-conforming product that falls outside of standard production capabilities. You will utilize our Manufacturing Execution System (MES) heavily during this process to track parts, manage material routing, and accurately log component swaps.
Root Cause Analysis: Investigate process deviations, defect spikes, and quality issues. You don't just put a band-aid on the problem; you identify the root cause and implement permanent, scalable fixes to the manufacturing process.
Process & Station Improvement: Partner with Manufacturing Engineers and Supervisors to redesign and optimize station layouts for maximum efficiency. You take a highly hands-on approach to floor operations, which includes designing, assembling, and building out custom racking, flow racks, and specialized workstations.
Production Support: Actively assist Production Associates and Leads in building product. You jump onto the line to relieve bottlenecks, guide the team through complex assemblies, and ensure production targets are hit without sacrificing quality.
Technical Partnership: Act as the bridge between the production floor and the engineering teams, providing critical frontline feedback to ensure process changes are practical and scalable.
What You’ll Bring
Experience: 3+ years in process technology, complex electromechanical assembly, rework, or a high-tech manufacturing environment.
Technical Aptitude: Deep understanding of root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, 8D) and a proven ability to diagnose complex assembly faults.
System Literacy: Hands-on proficiency in navigating and utilizing Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to track parts and manage process flows.
The "Base Pace": A strong work ethic and the ability to maintain high energy and urgency in a fast-growing, evolving environment.
Attention to Detail: You can seamlessly read technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and work instructions. You notice the build anomalies that others might miss.
Physical Capability: Ability to stand/walk for 12-hour shifts, kneel, bend, and safely lift up to 50 lbs. This is a highly active role that requires constant movement and hands-on work across the factory floor.
About the Team
The Production team at Base exists to turn advanced energy R&D into a tangible reality. As we open multiple factories and grow our team exponentially, our Manufacturing Technicians act as the heartbeat of our operations. You are the owners of the process flow, responsible for driving manufacturing excellence and resolving complex build anomalies. While our production associates execute the standard assembly, you manage the health of the process itself—analyzing data to identify bottlenecks, performing deep-dive root cause analyses on non-conforming product, executing intricate core repairs, and refining assembly parameters to ensure our First Pass Yield (FPY) and cycle times scale relentlessly.
Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.
Our Values
First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.
Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.
Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.
Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.
Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.
Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.
Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.
Do the best work of your life at Base.
