Asset Management

Job Description

About Base

Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

About the Role

Asset management owns the operating system that turns Base's structured-finance vehicles into a repeatable, audit-ready machine. As Base scales toward billions of dollars of tax equity and project debt funding, this role owns every fund vehicle from first close through the life of the fund — accounting, distributions, waterfalls, LP reporting, and audit response.

Base doesn't have a dedicated asset management function yet — the person who takes this seat will establish it, standing up new fund structures alongside legal, tax, and capital markets counsel and running them with the rigor that survives scrutiny. In the near term, this role will also own treasury — bank architecture, cash forecasting, wire controls, and short-duration cash strategy across operating and project-finance entities. Treasury will eventually spin out into its own seat; this role builds the foundations both sit on.

What You'll Do

  • Own the full lifecycle of every fund vehicle — formation, monthly funds flow, asset tranching into tax equity, draw requests on back-leverage, waterfalls, and distributions.

  • Manage the relationship with every capital provider post-closing — tax equity investors, back-leverage lenders, fund auditors — across the life of each fund.

  • Lead all investor reporting and audit response — capital account statements, audited financials, K-1s, draft tax returns — and own reconciliation between fund-level and corporate accounting.

  • Maintain fund-level and portfolio models with asset-level granularity; serve as the source of truth on fund performance, balance, and composition.

  • Own treasury operations until Base needs a dedicated Treasurer — bank architecture, 13-week cash forecasting, wire controls, short-duration investment of excess cash, and FX/rate risk as it becomes material.

  • Build the infrastructure from scratch — systems, workflows, SOPs, and AI-leveraged automations that let both functions scale without adding headcount.

What You'll Bring

  • 5-10 years in tax equity, asset management, fund administration, or project finance at a developer, sponsor, fund admin, or bank. You've built or run a fund vehicle from the inside — stood up the structure, designed the reporting, and written the SOPs that survived the first audit.

  • Fluency with tax equity partnership economics (HLBV, IRR flips, ITC/PTC mechanics) and the ability to translate a waterfall calculation into plain language for an LP, an auditor, or a non-finance stakeholder.

  • Strong instincts on reporting as a craft: reconciliation, controls, and audit-readiness. Low tolerance for a number that doesn't tie.

  • Experience with debt facility mechanics (draws, paydowns, reserve and escrow accounts) and enough treasury exposure to stand up bank architecture, pick a TMS, and write the cash movement policy layer.

  • Advanced Excel, comfort with NetSuite and BigQuery, and a mandate to use AI and automation to compress fund operations cycle time rather than absorb it with headcount.

  • Communication that holds up in front of institutional investors, lenders, and the CEO.

About the Team

The Base Finance and Business Operations team is responsible for providing clear visibility on past and future performance across the business, financing our growth, capital allocation decisions, and supporting the broader Base team on key performance drivers. To succeed, Base must raise and deploy tens of billions of dollars, maintain sustainable unit economics, exercise extreme operating leverage, and balance supply/demand and growth/profitability in a complex and high-pace environment. The finance team enables these by building toward omniscience with sharp analytics and tools for observability, integrating with the business to support operational decisions, establishing tight controls and processes to cull complexity, and presenting Base to investors effectively.

Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.

Our Values

  • First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.

  • Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.

  • Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.

  • Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.

  • Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.

  • Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.

  • Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.

Do the best work of your life at Base.
