Integrations Engineer

AviaryAI
New York, NY

Compensation

Job Description

Location: Hybrid- NYC (3+ days in office required)

Type: Full-time W-2 employee, subject to a 90-day introductory period

Salary and equity commensurate with experience and performance

About the Role

You will own Aviary's connectivity layer: the integrations that move data between our platform and the systems of record our clients run on - banking cores (Jack Henry, Fiserv, etc.), loan origination systems, and core middleware platforms. You'll also own the other side of the equation: Aviary's external API surface, which clients and partners use to push data in and pull results out.

This is a builder role, not a project-management role. You'll spend most of your time writing code -Python services, data pipelines, transformation logic, API endpoints - and the rest working with client technical teams to get integrations live and keep them healthy. You'll be the first dedicated integrations hire and the in-house authority on how credit union systems actually behave in the wild

You'll report to the CDO and work closely with engineering, infrastructure, and our Customer Success & Delivery team.

What You'll Own

  • Build and maintain core & LOS integrations. Design, develop, and operate the connections between Aviary and client systems of record- real-time core API integrations, batch file exchanges (fixed-width, pipe-delimited, CSV), and everything in between. Own data mapping, transformation, validation, and reconciliation for member, account, loan, and contact data.
  • Own Aviary's external API. Take charge of our client-facing API surface: endpoint design, versioning, authentication, documentation, and developer experience. Keep our external docs accurate and make our API the easiest part of any client's integration project.
  • Support client integration projects. Serve as the technical counterpart to client IT teams and core/middleware vendors during implementation - scoping data requirements, reviewing sample files, debugging connectivity, and certifying integrations through core vendor programs.
  • Harden the pipeline. Build monitoring, alerting, retry logic, and data quality checks so integration failures surface before they disrupt call campaigns. Triage and resolve production integration issues - malformed files, schema drift, credential expirations - with urgency and a paper trail.
  • Codify the patterns. Turn one-off integration work into reusable connectors, internal tooling, and documentation so each new client onboards faster than the last.

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of hands-on integration or backend engineering in legacy systems, including work with legacy formats and protocols - SOAP/XML/WSDL, fixed-width and delimited files, SFTP, and batch scheduling. Modern tooling is great; our clients' systems don't always agree.
  • Direct experience integrating with at least one banking core - Jack Henry, Fiserv, etc. - via APis (SOAP or REST) and/or batch file exchange. You know what a core conversion weekend feels like, at least secondhand.
  • Strong API fundamentals: REST design, authentication patterns ( OAuth, API keys, SAML/SSO awareness), webhooks, versioning, and writing documentation developers actually use.
  • Fluent SQL and comfort working with relational data models for members, accounts, loans, and transactions. Experience with Postgres is a plus.
  • Clear, patient communication with non-engineering audiences - client IT staff, core vendor support, and our CSD team. You can explain a GUID format mismatch to someone who has never seen one.
  • Sound judgment with sensitive data. Our clients are regulated financial institutions; you treat member data accordingly and are comfortable working within SOC 2, GLBA, and NCUA-adjacent compliance expectations.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with loan origination systems or lending data workflows.
  • Familiarity with CUFX or core middleware/connectivity platforms.
  • Experience going through a core vendor certification or integration program.
  • AWS experience (Lambda, ECS/EKS, Secrets Manager, S3) and CI/CD with GitHub Actions.
  • Exposure to event-driven architectures, message queues, or ETL/ELT frameworks.

Why this Role Matters

Voice AI in financial services lives or dies on integration quality. A brilliant agent with stale data makes a bad call - literally. As our first dedicated integrations engineer, you '11 define how Aviary connects to the systems that run America's credit unions, and the patterns you build will be the foundation every future client launches on.

What We Offer

  • Equity
  • Hybrid work - 3+ days in our NYC office
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage
  • Unlimited PTO
  • In-office meals stipend
  • Learning & development budget

Interview Process

  • Initial Call: 15–30 minute intro call with our co-founder/CEO to get to know each other.

  • Hiring Manager Call: 30 minute call with the hiring manager.

  • Technical Call & Coding Challenge: Meet with our dev team. You’ll submit a link to a recent project, walk us through the code and your logic, and make a small change live. We’ll schedule a 1-hour session with the engineering team — including our co-founder/CTO, who is the hiring manager — to go through your approach.

  • Final Interview: 30 minute call/in-person meeting with our founders (CEO, CTO, COO, and Head of Data).

  • Reference / background check.

  • Offer!
